John Kerry has been making much ado about the “outsourcing” of American jobs. He’s making much ado about nothing. Is outsourcing a big concern? Yes and no. Who wants to see jobs leaving our shores? But we either have free markets or not. Some jobs in my own profession have gone overseas, but I'm finding work. Is it a bad thing that middle class jobs in the Indian subcontinent -- the world's largest democracy -- are being created? Things change. People need to -- and can -- adapt if their hearts are in it. According to CNN.com,

Only a small portion of jobs lost in the first quarter were due to outsourcing of work overseas, according to a government report Thursday that's already being questioned by critics of the Bush administration.

The Bureau of Labor Statistics (BLS), in its first look at layoffs due to the relocation of work, identified only 4,633 jobs that were lost due to relocation of work overseas during the first quarter. …

The number of jobs lost to overseas relocations equals 2.5 percent of overall layoffs in the quarter, excluding seasonal job losses, while the domestic job relocations accounted for another 5.4 percent.

How does Monsieur Kerrie explain the 248,000 new American jobs created in May, the 346,000 created in April, and the 353,000 created in March? Almost one million new jobs have been created in just the last three months.
