“An American Muslim angered by Israel” has killed one and injured five at a Jewish center in our fair city of Seattle. Could this be another example of what the ever-prescient Daniel Pipes has warned us about, “the Sudden Jihad Syndrome, whereby normal-appearing Muslims abruptly become violent?” At least Seattle’s Mayor has not cloaked this vicious act in the terms of moral relativism, and categorically labeled it, “a crime of hate.” From the Beeb:
A gunman has opened fire at the offices of a Jewish organisation in the US city of Seattle, killing one person and injuring at least five others.
The suspect reportedly burst into the offices of the Jewish Federation of Greater Seattle saying he was an American Muslim angered by Israel.
He gave himself for arrest without a struggle, police said. …
Staff members have said the suspect opened fire after shouting: “I’m a Muslim American; I’m angry at Israel.”
Three of those hurt in the attack had received emergency surgery for their injuries, Seattle hospital officials said.
Seattle’s Mayor, Greg Nickels, said the attack was “a purposeful, hateful act as far we know, by an individual acting alone”.
“This is a crime of hate,” he said.

[…] Do we have another case of “sudden jihad syndrome,” this time in San Francisco? Omeed Aziz Popal, recently returned from Afghanistan, went on a road-rage rampage through the streets of San Francisco, killing 1 person and leaving at least 14 injured. This very intentional, homicidal act ended near a Jewish community center. Officer.com notes that the suspect was “apparently rational and unrepentant.” At least California’s governor’s head is clear: Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger called the spree “a malicious and hateful act” in a statement issued this evening. […]
