One thing in common amongst all the Palestinian/Israeli peace accords, the last being the Road Map, were the obligations put on the Palestinians to amend their charter to abandon the goal of Israel’s destruction, to recognize Israel’s right to exist and to cease all Jew-hating incitement. These agreements foolishly did not provide a mechanism to hold Palestinians accountable and extract a steep price from them for failure to abide by their promises.
The fundamental common cause for the failure of all these agreements was all-consuming, implacable Palestinian Jew hatred. Other than implicitly recognizing same in the context of the agreement-stated Palestinian obligations, the failures of these agreements due to Palestinian Jew hatred drew little or no mention by America, other Western nations and indeed Israel.
Though Palestinians are described as secular, their Jew hatred is no less than that of the Islamic radicals, and their thinking of Israel is along the same lines of Islamic radicalism’s thinking as regards the West.
Hatred of Jews and Israel has been rampant throughout most of the Muslim Middle East nations, from government policies and statements, the teachings and preachings in many mosques, in education in schools and universities, in all forms of the media, books, articles, the arts and the internet, which has been a great resource for spreading anti-Semitism. The flames of these hatreds are similarly being fuelled and fanned within Western Muslim communities by many Western Muslim leaders, imams and organizations, and they are converting many Muslims to their views.
Muslim anti-Semites have found support in some Western religious and among secular anti-Semites and that includes leaders of nations.
Many nations within the EU, whose policies and declarations as regards Israel or their consistently and repeatedly singling out Israel for censure as regards the Palestinian conflict, approach, if not cross the line into anti-Semitism. Nowhere do such statements gain greater attention than at the U.N., led by a Secretary General, whose own track record of statements and initiatives, raises serious question as to his neutrality regarding Israel and at times brands him by many as an anti-Semite.
With the current war grinding on with no end in sight soon, and increasing civilian casualties mounting, the calls for a cease fire agreement or at least temporary end to the hostilities is becoming increasingly urgent. Bush and Blair, both surprisingly speak of a need to end the hostilities in order to get Israel and the Palestinians back to where they were on the Road Map to peace and to resume negotiations. Quite inexplicably, perhaps because both are in denial, they clearly intend to revive the Road Map and get the Quartet and all the Western supporters behind that effort.
There are huge questions as to how Israel, let alone the Palestinians, could ever go back to where it was, as regards the Road Map given all the water under the bridge, just in the last two months.
If Bush, Blair, and all who intend to push for a resumption of peace negotiations between Israel and Palestinians, manage to get Israel and the Palestinians back to the table, but again refuse to recognize and once and for all deal with the all consuming Palestinian Jew and Israel hatred, those negotiations will go nowhere. If any agreement is ultimately reached, it will soon take its place at the head of the long line of failed Israeli-Palestinian peace agreements.
The problem with anti-Semitism is that no anti-Semite wants or can let go of their Jew hatred.
Implacable Muslim/Palestinian Jew and Israel hatred supported by non-Muslim Jew hatred is like an elephant in the room of the theatre of the Middle East and the Israeli-Palestinian conflict that no one charged with the responsibility of bringing about peace, wants to recognize and deal with.
The net result is that, for so long as the elephant of Middle Eastern Muslim and Palestinian Jew Israel hatred is allowed to remain in the room, there cannot be any room for peace between Israelis and Palestinians.
