I usually rag on the Hollywood stars, but there are exceptions, like Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie, who have “dared” to make a movie about the savage Islamist murder of reporter Daniel Pearl. Reports are now circulating that Brad and Angelina are receiving death threats because they are documenting Pearl’s execution. From the Columbus Dispatch:

Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie have received threats on their lives from al-Qaida, The Indian Financial Express reports. The couple are shooting the film A Mighty Heart, based on the life of Daniel Pearl, the Wall Street Journal reporter who was killed in Pakistan in 2002. British security experts flew to Pune, India, after being alerted by neighboring Pakistan that the couple might be targeted because of the film’s political nature.

Remember that Pearl:

…was kidnapped (and eventually murdered) in Karachi, Pakistan. Pearl was investigating the case of Richard Reid, links between Al Qaeda and Pakistan’s Inter-Services Intelligence (ISI), and $100,000 wired to September 11 chief operative Mohammed Atta’s account in the US by Ahmed Omar Saeed Sheikh, following instructions by Pakistani General Mahmoud Ahmad — the ISI director general at the time.

Current U.S. law forbids our citizens from conspiring to kill people in foreign countries. I think the law should be changed to make exceptions for self-defense. E.g. if a mullah puts out a death fatwa on Americans, the Americans should be allowed hire soldiers of fortune or even Mafiosi to kill the mullah first. Alternatively, the CIA should have it done.

This assumes that the mullah is outside U.S. jurisdiction, or that of countries with mutual law enforcement agreements. Obviously we don’t want to allow Wild West procedures in places where appeal to the law is possible. Only where the mullah or whomever is beyond the reach of the law should people be allowed to take matters into their own hands.

Looks like British security is on it. Unfortunately, parts of Pakistan are indeed the Wild West, and hopefully these actors will steer clear of that area.
