Join the Boycott, an initiative of the Friends of Israel Community, is a Yahoo Geocities website addressing the serious problem of anti-Israel propaganda in the Los Angeles Times, and anti-Israel bias in general. Join the Boycott has been providing ongoing commentary on this subject for over 5 years. Join the Boycott advocates responsible consumer protest as a means to combat anti-Israel bias.

Join the Boycott’s activities are an exercise of the First Amendment Right of Freedom of Speech.

On April 10, Yahoo took Join the Boycott offline without notice and without explanation.

In doing so, Yahoo has violated Join the Boycott’s fundamental Constitutional Right to Freedom of Speech.

Since April 10, Yahoo has refused to put Join the Boycott back online and has refused to provide an explanation. Instead Yahoo has responded with abusive form responses (see below) that show that it has no justification for taking this action.

Yahoo has also responded to the numerous protesters who wrote to them requesting they put Join the Boycott back online, with abusive form responses that either demean Join the Boycott or are designed to frustrate complainers. See for example http://www.voy.com/119804/721.html and http://www.voy.com/119804/720.html

Those who believe in Freedom of Speech and basic fairness should be outraged by what amounts to censorship of the voice of Friends of Israel. At a minimum, Yahoo must explain its unjustified and undemocratic actions.

Sincerely,

David Frankenthal

This is not an adequate response. Please respond to our request to know exactly it is that Join the Boycott said and what exact language of the Yahoo terms of service you claim we “violated”. Our next response, if necessary, will be disseminated to a much wider audience.

To Yahoo! Geocities:

We are outraged at your continued denial of Join the Boycott’s freedom
of speech and its contractual rights. We do not recall the specific
language of the Yahoo terms of service existing at the time we joined.
But we do know that at the heart of every contract is a basic
requirement that the
parties act in good faith. Closing our website
without notice, without explanation, and without recourse is the
ultimate bad faith behaviour.

We have been a client of Yahoo Geocities for about 5 years. We have
brought approximately 200,000 hits to Yahoo Geocities. To treat us with
this level of discourtesy and disrespect is adding insult to the
considerable injury you have caused Join the Boycott.

And just what is our sin here?

That we told the truth about KPFK and its virulent anti-Israel
propaganda and anti-semitism?:

see [Israeli] “Massacres”, [Israel’s] “Wars against Palestinians”,
“Israel’s Assault of Palestine”, “AIPAC’s Influence on US Foreign
Policy”, etc.
“For a gift of $65 to KPFK, they will “gift” you the CD “Blood and
Religion: The Unmasking of the Jewish and Democratic State”. see Radio
Intifada
That we told the truth about Whole Foods support of KPFK and its
“Radio Intifada”?

Or perhaps that we continue to tell the truth about LA Times
anti-Israel propaganda, or the anti-Israel propaganda at the BBC, or at
NPR. Which is it?

Where does it say in the contract that telling the truth is a
violation of Yahoo’s terms of service?

Yes. You need to give us a full explanation as to what exactly it is
that we said and what exact language of the Yahoo terms of service we
“violated”.

Join the Boycott is a serious website with a serious message to
impart, one that people want to hear. We demand you put Join the Boycott
back online immediately and issue us a refund of every cent you owe us
for every moment you have kept our website offline.

If you do not, we intend to take action to protect our rights and we
are including in our consideration all forms of legal action available
to us.

Sincerely,

  1. Beth Rathbone Says:

I am beyond outraged at this; did terrorists purchase a large percentage of Yahoo or the LA Times or both?

After reading a “news” article in the LA Times which I received through CAMERA … naturally, I am proud to boycott the LA Times … I googled your site in order to see what you had posted about it before writing the LA Times.

To my surprise, there was a list of other-worldly sites, so I googled “Join the Boycott of the LA Times” and landed here.

This is frightening; 1930’s Germany redux?

I understand that anti-Semitism is up approximately 56% in the past calendar year, but I didn’t realize Yahoo is part of that campaign.

  2. publisher Says:

Someone got to Yahoo! via politically-correct pressure. Maybe CAIR?

It is amazing that Yahoo! would censor Join the Boycott, because it is a rational, civilized organization.

Yahoo! probably has thousands of truly offensive websites hosted. Unfortunately, we will probably never know, as the Yahoo! terms of service give them a legal out to censor whatever they want, and they are not legally obligated to reveal their reasoning — unless taken to court.

  3. Israpundit » Blog Archive » Join the Boycott Overcomes Yahoo! Censorship Says:

[…] Join the Boycott (JTB) overcame censors at AOL and Lycos, and now Yahoo! Why would a responsible organization like JTB be censored in a free society? “Join the Boycott, an initiative of the Friends of Israel Community, is a Yahoo Geocities website addressing the serious problem of anti-Israel propaganda in the Los Angeles Times, and anti-Israel bias in general. Join the Boycott has been providing ongoing commentary on this subject for over 5 years. Join the Boycott advocates responsible consumer protest as a means to combat anti-Israel bias.” Note that certain keyword that I highlighted, Israel. Yes, in these upside-down, politically-correct times, double-standards are commonplace. […]
