Is Iraq Ready to Lose an American Military Presence?

Monday, October 4th, 2010

By Andrew L. Jaffee

A seemingly farcical and losing battle by American-backed Iraqi forces raises some serious questions about the future of the fledgling Middle East democracy (which today we find has the 2nd largest oil reserves on Earth).

1) Has President Obama’s announcement that the, “American combat mission in Iraq has ended. Operation Iraqi Freedom is over,” scared the heck of out Iraqi citizens and emboldened Islamist enemies of democracy? After all, “…nearly 60 percent [of Iraqis] feel it is the wrong time for U.S. soldiers to leave…” 2) Has living under the dictatorship of Saddam created a sense of sheepishness in Iraqis — a lack of venturousness, innovation, initiative…? 3) Is the average Iraqi military recruit sheepish? 4) Why are some of Iraq’s Sunnis and Shi’ites very un-sheepish about killing each other? 5) Do American military strategists really understand the complexities of “Urban Low-Intensity Conflict (Urban-LIC) warfare?” Unfortunately, it’s most likely all of the above. Consider the details of the recent failed military venture:

Canadian Department of National Defence Tells Islamist to Push Off

Monday, October 4th, 2010

By Andrew L. Jaffee

Canada’s government under Prime Minister Stephen Harper continues to impress me. According to Jihad Watch, “A small victory: Islamic supremacist Imam Zijad Delic disinvited to speak at ‘Islamic Heritage Month’ event at Canada’s Dept of National Defence:”

CNN’s Anti-Semitic Host Rick Sanchez: No Media Bias?

Sunday, October 3rd, 2010

By Andrew L. Jaffee

So all the talk about media bias is just nonsense? Take Oliver “The Jewish domination of the media” Stone or Mel “f*cking Jews” Gibson. CNN actually just — what a pleasant surprise — fired TV anchor Rick Sanchez:

… Sanchez called out Comedy Central host Jon Stewart as a “bigot” for mocking him, and complained that Jews — like Stewart — don’t face discrimination. He also suggested that CNN, and perhaps the media industry more broadly, is run by Jews and elitists who look down on Hispanics like himself. …

Clearly, those comments didn’t sit well with the network, which put out a terse statement around 6 p.m. Friday.

“Rick Sanchez is no longer with the company,” the CNN statement read. …

Now, of course, you’ll have idiots saying that Sanchez was fired because Jews DO “dominate the media.” Ahhhhh… nnnnnooooooooooo…

Keith Ellison’s Stealth Jihad

Sunday, October 3rd, 2010

by Denis MacEoin*

“Who is Keith Ellison?” There are no simple answers. Throughout a checkered career, this liberal American politician has adopted many guises and presented different messages. He is an African-American who has moved from the fringe to the center of politics. He is a Democrat with a predictably liberal voting record, yet he consorts with groups and individuals that represent a threat to democracy and America. He is a convert to Islam but challenges Islamic orthodoxy on numerous issues legislatively. He identifies strongly with his faith, yet the details of his conversion and his current sentiments as a Muslim are obscure. He considers himself a friend of Israel[1] but, at other times, has appeared on the same platforms with speakers vocal in their opposition to the Jewish state and their support for terrorist groups that have murdered its citizens.

Two Constant Mistakes of the Mass Media: Dictatorships Don’t Dictate; Almost Everyone’s a Moderate

Saturday, October 2nd, 2010

By Barry Rubin

I don’t know about you but it always makes me feel better to be reminded that folly didn’t start recently. In my view, the quality of reporting in the mass media has become far more politicized, biased, and ideological in recent years. Yet, of course, there are many prior examples.

The Reign of Hard-line Students in Iran’s Universities

Friday, October 1st, 2010

by Saeid Golkar*

In the summer of 2009, the regime of Ayatollah Ali Khamene’i was rocked by demonstrations throughout the major cities of Iran as people from all walks of life protested the fraudulent results that had reelected the ayatollah’s ally, Mahmoud Ahmadinejad, as president. In scenes that transfixed viewers from across the world, the “Green Movement” publicly and loudly protested the voting scam and then the clerical regime itself. But no sooner had the protesters begun to mobilize popular support for ending the 30-year mullahcracy when the regime’s shock troops, the Nirou-ye Moqavemat-e Basij, (Mobilization Resistance Force) and its cadet branch, the Student Basij Organization (SBO) sprang into action, suppressing the uprising.
