America: Beware Giving in to the False Concept of Islamophobia

Thursday, March 31st, 2011

by Phyllis Chesler

We are drowning in anti-Israel propaganda, and still it never stops coming.

Simultaneously, the “Palestinian narrative” appears to us as if in a dream, over and over again, always slightly surreal and yet overly familiar. By now the “Palestinian narrative” is a brand and we have all been hypnotized.  This is not surprising.

For more than 40 years, the Soviet, Arab, and Saudi Lobbies, eventually joined by the Iranian Lobby, have funded the demonization of Israel and the popularization of Palestine. The condemnation of Israel for crimes it has never committed (“ethnic cleansing,” “genocide,” “apartheid”) and the call for a Palestinian one-state solution is echoed, similarly, in films, books, poems, academic papers and lectures; we see and hear this on television, at conferences, at campus demonstrations, in the halls of the United Nations, the European Union, in Parliaments, and, of course, in the Arab and Islamic worlds.

Anti-Israel Agitprop on the Silver Screen

Wednesday, March 30th, 2011

by Phyllis Chesler

Great works of art can persuade people to believe that a lie is true, that good is evil, and that evil is good.

For example, the film Paradise Now, which I reviewed in these pages more than five years ago, is a brilliant piece of propaganda whose aim was — and still is — to support a (false) Palestinian “narrative” over and above its true Israeli counterpart. It is a powerful film, but one which does not serve the cause of truth so much as that of propaganda.

Four Middle Eastern Upheavals

Wednesday, March 30th, 2011

by Daniel Pipes*

After decades of stasis, the Middle East is in uproar. With too much going on to focus on a single place, here’s a review of developments in four key countries.

Syria’s Assad Doesn’t Relish Living in a Hole Like Saddam?

Tuesday, March 29th, 2011

When I asked, “Is Syria Next?,” I really didn’t expect events to move so fast in one of the Arab World’s most repressive regimes. Perhaps the image of Saddam living in a hole, or Gaddafi fighting for his pathetic life, or Egypt’s army abandoning General Hosni Mubarak, or anti-government protests spreading across the Gulf States, have convinced Syria’s “leader” Bashar al-Assad that he’d prefer not to follow the same fate. Perhaps not. Bashar and his father have been nothing short of ruthless, evil dictators. Nonetheless, this morning we wake to find that:

George W. Obama

Tuesday, March 29th, 2011

by Daniel Pipes*

Barack Obama’s rejection of George W. Bush’s Middle East policies in large part fueled meteoric his own rise to the top of American politics. He reviled the war in Iraq, criticized the one in Afghanistan, promised to close down Guantánamo, establish a new respect of Islam, and quickly solve the Arab-Israeli conflict.

Facebook Finally Pulls Israel-Hating Group

Tuesday, March 29th, 2011

Facebook has finally pulled down a page/group which called itself the “Third Intifada.” After a long period of carefully worded legal-speak defending this page, Facebook has covered its rear end from liability by yanking the page — there was no morality involved in the company’s decision. Just the title of this bigoted “Third Intifada” page means incitement to violence and violence itself. Any sane person knows what “Intifada” means pragmatically: Killing Jews. Specifically, the “Second Intifada” culminated after Israel’s Prime Minister Ehud Barak and Palestinian terror-master Yasser Arafat met at Camp David in 2000. Of course, Arafat rejected Israel’s offer of everything Palestinians supposedly aspire to:

… The most generous peace offer in the history of the conflict was answered with the most sustained wave of Palestinian suicide bombings in Israeli history. In less than three years, almost 800 Israelis — mostly civilians — became victims of terror. …

The now-defunct “Third Intifada” page’s, “… official action item calls for a march on Israel from across the Arab world on May 15, 2011 to ‘liberate’ the Palestinian territory. …” Again, any sane person familiar with Palestinian sophistry knows this is code-speak for killing every Jew in Israel and putting an end to the existence of the Jewish State.

I have no thanks to give Facebook, only to those people who took the time to put pressure on the company so it would take down a website with 350,000 members shilling for a second Holocaust.

HonestReporting accurately captured Facebook’s true intentions:

… Indeed, looking for ways to hold Facebook accountable in the event of violence on or after May 15 may prove more effective than seeking to remove the group, especially now that Facebook has refused to take serious action. …

Star Studded Tribute to the IDF Held at the Waldorf Astoria

Monday, March 28th, 2011

By Fern Sidman

“Israel is clearly an island of stability. An outpost of the free world values in tough neighborhood, where there is no mercy for the weak. no second opportunity for those who cannot defend themselves. Thus, we must remain strong,” declared Israeli Defense Minister Ehud Barak, as he delivered the keynote address at the Friends of the Israel Defense Forces 30th annual gala dinner held at the famed Waldorf Astoria hotel on Tuesday evening, March 22nd.

Speaking before a star studded audience of over 1500 people; replete with a plethora of prominent political and religious personalities and celebrities of all stripes, Minister Barak noted the impending September 2011 convocation of the United Nations General Assembly in which the world body will “recognize a Palestinian state along the ’67 borders, followed by a wide effort at de-legitimization of Israel” and referred to this move and others like as a “diplomatic tsunami” that is rising against the Jewish state.

Muslim Jihad in Christian Ethiopia: Lessons for the West

Monday, March 28th, 2011

by Raymond Ibrahim*

Not only does last week’s jihadist rampage against Ethiopia’s Christians highlight the travails Christians encounter wherever Islam has a sizable population, but it offers several insights, including some which should concern faraway, secular nations with Muslim minorities. According to Fox News:

The Birth Tourism Industry Continues to Grow

Monday, March 28th, 2011

By Jon Feere, CIS.org

Citing building code violations, police and city inspectors in the city of San Gabriel — a Los Angeles suburb — recently closed three townhouses which had been converted to operate as a maternity center for birth tourists. (See video here.) According to city officials who spoke with the Chinese and Taiwanese temporary aliens, they traveled to the United States for the specific purpose of adding a U.S. passport-holder to their families. The effort had apparently become a lucrative business according to the observations of one neighbor who claims to have seen “groups of women in the advanced stages of pregnancy taking walks in the neighborhood and a lot of cars in the middle of the night.” He explained, “I knew something from the get-go was going on. There was a lot of coming and going.” Officials reportedly found 10 newborns and 12 immigrants inside the home.

The ‘Palestinization’ of lesbian activism

Friday, March 25th, 2011

by Phyllis Chesler

On February 22, the New York City Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual and Transgender Community Center cancelled an upcoming Israeli Apartheid Week fundraising “party,” whose organizers planned to raise money for another flotilla to “break the siege of Gaza.”

Michael Lucas, a pro-Israel activist and gay adult filmmaker who belongs to the Center, insisted that this anti-Israeli-Apartheid “party” would be “anti-Semitic.” His opponents are mainly Jewish lesbian feminists who believe that the cancellation undermines their right to free speech. Over the years, most lesbian feminists have strongly supported pornography as a First Amendment right. Only now are they demonizing Lucas as a “Zionist” pornographer.

Mainstream Media Uses Orwellian Techniques to Sanitize Palestinian Savagery

Thursday, March 24th, 2011

When it comes to coverage of Israel, the West’s “mainstream” media has manifested the horrors of propaganda predicted by George Orwell in his novel Nineteen Eighty-Four. The prescient terms defined by Orwell to describe the manipulation of public opinion through propaganda — newspeak, doublethink, and doublespeak — are being used to twist ultra-violent, hateful, evil Palestinian terrorist acts into acts of resistance to “oppression” or acts committed against inanimate objects (not humans). Thanks to HonestReporting, we have the evidence:

“The Conscience of the Oslo Accords is Crumbling,” Says Moshe Feiglin

Thursday, March 24th, 2011

By Fern Sidman

A palpable excitement filled the air as over 1000 people gathered on Monday evening, March 21st at the Terrace On The Park catering hall in New York to attend the 9th annual gala dinner for the Manhigut Yehudit (Jewish Leadership) movement. This year’s dinner was dedicated to the incredible life and enduring legacy of Herbert Zweibon, ZT”L, the beloved founder and chairman of Americans For A Safe Israel (AFSI) who passed away on Tu B’Shevat, January 19, 2011, as special tributes were paid him. Considered a shining paradigm of pro-Israel activism in America, Mr. Zweibon was remembered in the fondest of terms by the Manhigut Yehudit leadership.

The pinnacle of incompetence

Wednesday, March 23rd, 2011

by Efraim Karsh*

It is commonplace for the views of people in power to receive widespread exposure. Having presumably won their stripes in an arduous climb to the top, they are believed to know best what’s going on.

This presumption, however, is not only wrong, but is often the inverse of the truth. Given bureaucracy’s predilection for conformity, it is rarely the best and brightest who reach the top, but rather the yes-men sycophants – whether by rising to their level of incompetence, as the Peter Principle famously asserts, or by stumbling upward through successive failures, or by simply “being there” long enough.

No ‘Revolution’ for Egypt’s Christians

Wednesday, March 23rd, 2011

by Raymond Ibrahim*

On March 5, Muslims attacked, plundered, and set ablaze an ancient Coptic church in Sool, a village near Cairo, Egypt. Afterwards, throngs of Muslims gathered around the scorched building and pounded its walls down with sledge hammers — to cries of “Allahu Akbar!” Adding insult to injury, the attackers played “soccer” with the relic-remains of the church’s saints and martyrs and transformed the desecrated church into a mosque (a live example of history, which witnessed countless churches seized and transformed into mosques). As a result of Christian girls being abducted and raped and overall terrorization of the Coptic community, thousands fled the village. (See this letter to Egypt’s military leadership signed by twenty congressmen discussing this and similar anecdotes.)

Public Megillah Reading Held at Iranian Mission to the UN

Tuesday, March 22nd, 2011

By Fern Sidman

“Ahmadinejad: Remember What Happened to Haman” was one of the many signs held aloft on Sunday afternoon, March 20th, as close to 500 Jews gathered on Purim day for a public reading of Megillat Esther (the Book of Esther) that was held outside the Iranian mission to the United Nations on Manhattan’s east side. Organized by Americans For A Safe Israel (AFSI), Amcha – the Coalition for Jewish Concerns, Z Street and the Jewish Political Education Council, the reading was held as a symbolic representation of the indefatigable nature of the Jewish people and G-d’s intervention in their survival throughout the millennium.

“Purim is a day that we celebrate the survival of the Jewish people against evil rulers who sought our complete annihilation in the city of Shushan in Persia. In every generation the names of our oppressors and their countries of origin may change, but they are driven by one common denominator and that is visceral hatred of the Jew”, intoned Larry Domnitch, a freelance writer and designated reader of the megillah.
