ICE Detainees Released ARE Criminals

Thursday, February 28th, 2013

By Jessica Vaughan, CIS.org

Contrary to the claims of illegal alien advocacy groups, many of the detainees being released by ICE under the bogus pretext of sequestration-mandated budget cuts are in fact criminals, and hardly harmless, according to a variety of sources.

Here are some categories of detainees who were released from ICE detention over the last week:

The Book of Esther: A Political Analysis

Wednesday, February 27th, 2013

By Barry Rubin

The Book of Esther, which is read on Purim and to which that holiday is dedicated, has been interpreted many ways. Yet there is much to be understood by analyzing the story in terms of political ideology and strategy.

Ahasuerus is the powerful king over Persia and much more. He holds a banquet and invites the leaders of all of the provinces to come in order to wield together his diverse empire by showing his wealth, strength, generosity, and bringing together his political elite in terms of fellowship and equality with each other.

Click this link to take you to a page which allows you to tell the entire membership of both the New Mexico Senate Public Affairs Committee and the Senate Judiciary Committee (16 senators) to oppose House Bill 77 with one mouse click.

House Bill 77 has been revised since it was first introduced, and initially failed to move forward, but it has now passed in the New Mexico House and been referred to the Senate Public Affairs And Senate Judiciary Committees.

According to the NRA, HB 77 "is the first step toward the criminalization of all private firearm transfers…" and "mandates that organizers or promoters of gun shows in New Mexico provide the services of a federally licensed firearms dealer (FFL) to process background checks for private firearm transfers, and requires all transfers at these events go through an FFL unless transferred to a New Mexico concealed handgun licensee. This measure also provides immunity from liability to the transferor and the FFL for complying with this requirement, requires mental health records that disqualify someone from being able to purchase or possess firearms to be reported to the FBI for inclusion in the National Instant Check System, and establishes for restoration of rights if the disqualifying condition is removed."

Your message will be sent to the following New Mexico Senators — (OPTIONAL: it would help if you also called each member to follow up):

Islamist Assassinations in the West

Tuesday, February 26th, 2013

by Daniel Pipes*

Terrorism broadly takes two forms: against random individuals who happen to be at a market place or on a bus at the wrong time; or against specific individuals because of who they are. The latter in turn divides into two: against broad categories of people (the military, Jews, people who wear eyeglasses) and against specific public figures, either individuals or institutions. In effect, these last are assassinations (defined by Merriam-Webster as “to murder (a usually prominent person) by sudden or secret attack often for political reasons”).

Islamic Assassination: Silencing Freedom Fighters

Tuesday, February 26th, 2013

by Raymond Ibrahim*

Tunisia, one of the most secular Arab countries in modern times—and the first country to experience the “Arab Spring”—was also recently the first Arab country to experience a high level political Islamic assassination since the Arab Spring began. The BBC explains:

Tunisian opposition politician Chokri Belaid has been shot dead outside his home in the capital, Tunis. Relatives say Mr Belaid was shot in the neck and head on his way to work. He was a prominent secular opponent of the moderate [sic] Islamist-led government and his murder has sparked protests around the country, with police firing tear gas to disperse angry crowds.

Some thoughts on Anti-semitism

Sunday, February 24th, 2013

by Gary Gerofsky

I sometimes think about the problem of anti-Semitism and why this irrational prejudice preoccupies so many people these days — from elites in Europe, to bureaucrats and Islamists in the UN, to churches, unions and Left-leaning academics and politicians.

I believe that in the minds of people like Noam Chomsky and Norman Finkelstein, both of whom are children of Holocaust victims, they blame the ravages of the Holocaust on the group affiliation of the victims rather than on the perpetrators. They use the Holocaust nightmare to apply retroactive retribution to Jews for the existence of the State of Israel via the murderous hands of the Nazis. They apply a similar retribution to Jews in the present using Islamic terrorism as the battering ram of choice. During speaking engagements by these individuals, they reveal a loathing and disdain for Jews/Israel and perhaps they believe that the brutality of the Nazis was somehow a justifiable component and end result of the anger towards Jews by Europeans against the Jewish religion or against other characteristics of their Jewish victims. Do the “intellectuals” of today think that Jews did something wrong or that their beliefs got them into the mess known as the Holocaust and the wars carried out against Israel by its neighbors since the Holocaust? Do they think that Israel is receiving its just deserts today in terms of terror heaped on the country for being a Jewish state?

Death for Preaching Christ in ‘Liberated’ Libya

Sunday, February 24th, 2013

by Raymond Ibrahim*

Four foreign Christians—including one who holds American-Swedish citizenship—were arrested days ago in Libya. According to the Guardian, their crime is arousing “suspicion of being missionaries and distributing Christian literature, a charge that could carry the death penalty.”

Apparently the four Christians had “contracted a local printer to produce pamphlets explaining Christianity.” Proselytizing to Muslims—that is, preaching to them another religion—was banned even under the late Col. Muammar Gaddafi.

The Last Refuge of Anti-Israel Activists

Saturday, February 23rd, 2013

By DAVID GERSTMAN

A few weeks ago, the New York Times reported Pro Palestinian speakers attract protests outside. The event at Brooklyn college was a Boycott, Divestment, Sanctions (BDS) event focused on delegitimizing Israel. To read the New York Times account, one doesn’t get a sense of what was controversial about the event:

Controversy had grown over the past week at the Midwood college, where nearly a fifth of the undergraduate population is Jewish, over the event organized by a student group, Students for Justice in Palestine. The college’s political science department agreed to co-sponsor the speakers along with more than two dozen other groups.
Jewish leaders on and off campus had criticized the college and its president, Karen L. Gould, for sponsoring the talk, which they said helped legitimize the B.D.S. movement, which refers to Boycott, Divestment and Sanctions. Its goal is to pressure Israel to restore disputed territories and grant equal rights to Palestinians.

Throughout the week, the right to academic freedom served as the backbone to arguments in favor of the college’s sponsorship of the event.

Oppose ‘Gang of Eight’ Immigration Amnesty In One Easy Step

Friday, February 22nd, 2013

Polls show that 1) most Americans prefer making it harder for illegal aliens to enter the U.S., 2) most Americans oppose granting millions of illegals amnesty, and 3) most Americans believe that illegals place a great strain on the U.S. economy — especially during a time of tepid economic growth. Just look at a summary of 12 public opinion polls on immigration here and here. If readers want to wade through pages of polling information about Americans’ general opposition to opening the flood-gates to illegal immigration, click here. Given that public opinion is against illegal immigration, why have 4 Democrats and 4 Republicans — the so-called “Gang of 8″ — chosen to ignore the peoples’ will? Note that the Gang of 8 is a group of compromise-at-all-cost weasels, namely Sen. Marco Rubio (R-Fla.), Sen. Jeff Flake (R-Ariz.), Sen. John McCain (R-Ariz.), Sen. Lindsey Graham (R-S.C.), Sen. Dick Durbin (D-Ill.), Sen. Robert Menendez (D-N.J.), Sen. Chuck Schumer (D-N.Y.), and Sen. Michael Bennet (D-Colo.). If you oppose their disastrous proposed legislation for “immigration reform,” click on this link, fill in your email address, name, street address, zip code, and phone number, and the letter shown below will be faxed for free to President Obama and your two federal senators. You can select from a bunch of differently worded letters, too, making this tool all the more effective. This one-step marvel of activism is courtesy of NumbersUSA Action. Here’s one of the choices of faxes that can be sent:

A Blueprint for Immigration Reform: Revisiting the Jordan Commission Report

Thursday, February 21st, 2013

By David North, CIS.org

Those interested in or advocating “comprehensive immigration reform” should examine the thoroughly researched, well-documented findings of a federal commission that spent more than five years — and numerous hearings — dealing with exactly that subject.

This was the U.S. Commission on Immigration Reform, created by Congress as part of the Immigration Act of 1990.1 The Commission had impressive credentials, access to millions in federal funds, and was served by a highly competent staff. It had four Democratic appointees and four Republican ones, and with three chairs who were, in turn, a then-member of the College of Cardinals, a former member of the U.S. House of Representative, and a former member of the president’s cabinet.

Philadelphia’s Burqa Crisis

Thursday, February 21st, 2013

by Daniel Pipes*

Philadelphia, the city where I live, has quietly and unassumedly become the capital of the Western world as regards female Islamic garb as an accessory to crime.

First, a tutorial on Islamic coverings, all of which tend to be called veils in English but fall into three main categories. Some (the abaya, hijab, chador, jilbab, or khimar) cover parts of the body, especially the hair, neck, and shoulders, but reveal the face and identity of the woman; some cover the face (the yashmak) but show the body shape; and some hide the whole body, including the identity and gender of the wearer. The latter – our topic here – is better described as a full-body cover than a veil: it in turn has two types, those that cover the person entirely (the chadari or burqa) or those with a slit for the eyes (the haik or niqab).

New Mexico House Republican Caucus Takes Stand Against Anti-Gun HB 402

Wednesday, February 20th, 2013

New Mexico House Bill 402 is an “all-out assault on law-abiding gun owners” in the state. The bill is “one of the worst gun control bills filed in the entire country” as it could essentially ban ALL semi-automatic rifles that can accept a detachable magazine and ALL semi-automatic shotguns, unless they fit into one of the very narrow exemptions in this bill. At a critical juncture in the battle against New Mexico’s rabid anti-gun advocates, the state’s House Republican Caucus yesterday sent a letter to the House Consumer and Public Affairs Committee coherently voicing opposition to HB 402. This committee is holding a public hearing on HB 402 tomorrow, February 21, at 1:30 PM in Santa Fe.

We here at netwmd.com created an action page which sends emails telling the entire membership of both the New Mexico House Consumer and Public Affairs Committee and the House Judiciary Committee (18 representatives) to oppose House Bill 402 with one mouse click. At the time of publishing this article, good citizens have sent 2718 emails using our page. Please use our page now to voice your opposition to HB 402 and send your emails. Follow up by calling the representatives (their phone numbers are listed on the page). Please attend the hearing if you can (click here for directions or see below).

Even the DOJ doesn’t believe in an “assault weapon” ban

Tuesday, February 19th, 2013

Justice Department researchers have concluded that an assault weapons ban is “unlikely to have an effect on gun violence,” but President Obama has not accepted their report as his administration’s official position.

Why should Obama bother listening to anyone? His head is in the clouds and he believes he knows what’s best for all us plebeians. In his fantasy world, he ignores the research of his own highly-paid legal staff:

“Since assault weapons are not a major contributor to US gun homicide and the existing stock of guns is large, an assault weapon ban is unlikely to have an impact on gun violence,” the DOJ’s National Institute for Justice explains in a January 4 report obtained by the National Rifle Association. “If coupled with a gun buyback and no exemptions then it could be effective.” That idea is also undermined by the acknowledgement that “a complete elimination of assault weapons would not have a large impact on gun homicides.”

Guns control kooks target 2nd Amendment AND 4th Amendment

Tuesday, February 19th, 2013

The rabid gun-control kooks trying to disarm law-abiding American citizens don’t understand — or care — about the sanctity of the U.S. Constitution. Have they even read our Constitution? Case in point, state lawmakers in Olympia, Washington have drafted legislation that violates both the Second and Fourth Amendments. For those who don’t remember, the Second Amendment ensures that the “the right of the people to keep and bear arms, shall not be infringed,” while the Fourth Amendment insists that:

The right of the people to be secure in their persons, houses, papers, and effects, against unreasonable searches and seizures, shall not be violated, and no Warrants shall issue, but upon probable cause, supported by Oath or affirmation, and particularly describing the place to be searched, and the persons or things to be seized.
