L’Attentat: Suicide Bombing as a Female Career Option

Sunday, June 30th, 2013

by Phyllis Chesler

An Arab doctor and his suicide bomber wife are the focus of a complex film banned in Lebanon.

I have just seen Lebanese director Zind Doueiri’s prize-winning film, “L’Attentat” (The Attack). The film focuses on Dr. Amin Jafaari, a rather soulful, assimilated Arab Israeli surgeon who lives and works in Tel Aviv. His colleagues are mainly Israeli Jews with whom he socializes; they are his social as well as professional intimates.

Islamists the Biggest Terror Threat to U.S.: Poll

Sunday, June 30th, 2013

by Daniel Pipes*

A recent opinion survey asked a sampling of Americans: “Which is a bigger terrorist threat to the United States today – radical Muslims, the Tea Party, local militia groups, the Occupy Wall Street movement, or other religious or political extremists?”

In reply, 51 percent of likely voters deemed Islamists the greatest terrorist threat, with Obama opponents weighing in at 75 percent and his supporters at 29 percent. In the words of the pollster, “Conservatives overwhelmingly see radical Muslims as the greater terror threat. Liberals are fairly evenly divided between radical Muslims and the Tea Party.”

Homegrown Terrorists, Rebels in Search of a Cause

Saturday, June 29th, 2013

by Peter A. Olsson*

The Boston bombing has refocused public attention on a steadily growing phenomenon the Obama administration has been trying to sweep under the carpet: domestic Islamist terrorists whose familiarity with American culture makes them more difficult to detect prior to their acts of terror. By way of preventing similar attacks, therefore, it is necessary not only to monitor terror networks but also to understand the psychodynamics of the creation of “homegrown terrorists” in general, and the appeal of radical Islam to “In-betweeners”—young persons in a transitional phase in one or more key aspects of their lives—in particular.

The Vulnerable “In-betweeners”

Clinical psychologist Margaret Singer’s 1995 Cults in Our Midst spells out this behavioral pattern in some detail, explaining the individual’s vulnerability to seduction by an exploitative cult:

It is not exclusively up to Israel to make the world right

Friday, June 28th, 2013

By Gary Gerofsky

Israel has and continues to make increasingly important contributions to the world of science, medicine, software, hardware, the arts, humanitarian aid and a great many other categories. Israel, to its credit and out of necessity, has also made great strides in military equipment, training and minimizing human suffering in war. In situations where Israel could easily have eliminated those who intimidate, terrorize and make the destruction of Israel their raison d’etre, Israel has chosen to use surgical techniques against attackers, putting their own soldiers at risk instead of taking the easy route of massive bombing missions. When the shoe is on the other foot, Israel’s enemies throw everything they have at Israel and — were it not for Israel’s military superiority — Israel would have been eliminated long ago as Jewish enclaves and/or kingdoms have been wiped out through the ages by superior armies headed by tyrannical despots.

Obama to Egyptian Christians: Don’t Protest the Brotherhood

Wednesday, June 26th, 2013

by Raymond Ibrahim*

As Egyptians of all factions prepare to demonstrate in mass against the Muslim Brotherhood and President Morsi’s rule on June 30, the latter has been trying to reduce their numbers, which some predict will be in the millions and eclipse the Tahrir protests that earlier ousted Mubarak. Accordingly, among other influential Egyptians, Morsi recently called on Coptic Christian Pope Tawadros II to urge his flock, Egypt’s millions of Christians, not to join the June 30 protests.

While that may be expected, more troubling is that the U.S. ambassador to Egypt is also trying to prevent Egyptians from protesting—including the Copts. The June 18 edition of Sadi al-Balad reports that lawyer Ramses Naggar, the Coptic Church’s legal counsel, said that during Patterson’s June 17 meeting with Pope Tawadros, she “asked him to urge the Copts not to participate” in the demonstrations against Morsi and the Brotherhood.

The Pope politely informed her that his spiritual authority over the Copts does not extend to political matters.

Tell your senators to vote NO on immigration amnesty bill S.744!

Tuesday, June 25th, 2013

PLEASE ACT NOW! using the links below as the Senate is voting on the immigration amnesty bill, possibly the most wide-ranging piece of nonsensical legislation proposed in decades. The bill puts amnesty first and border security last (if ever). Tell your senators to vote NO on S.744! It will just take you a couple of minutes. (For information to present to your senators, see below.)

Senate Bill S. 744 is a piece of legislation that will destroy the American dream. Among its many heinous provisions are that it will grant amnesty to 11 – 20 million illegal immigrants, grant amnesty to “employers found to have employed illegal aliens or who are currently employing illegal aliens,” cost American taxpayers $6.3 trillion when our country is already drowning in debt and unemployment is high, take away jobs from Americans already struggling to find work or who are under-employed… This piece of legislation has been cobbled together using the old smoky backroom deal-making tactic. The devastating impact of S. 744 is summarized here, here, here, and here. You can use these links to learn about the immigration amnesty bill, find out why you must oppose it, and arm yourself with facts to present to your elected representatives when contacting them. PLEASE ACT NOW!

US Energy Independence and Israel

Sunday, June 23rd, 2013

by Ambassador (ret.) Yoram Ettinger, “Israel Hayom”, June 22, 2013

The most critical, clear and present dangers to US’ national security, homeland security and economy, are Iran’s nuclearization, Islamic terrorism, the explosive impact of the seismic Arab Street, the potential disruption of the supply and price of imported-oil and the declining US posture of deterrence.

The most clear and present policy to alleviate these threats would be US energy independence, ending dependence on unpredictable Arab oil producers, bolstering the US posture of deterrence, accelerating economic growth, improving the trade balance, reducing the budget deficit, lowering energy costs, expanding employment and availing more funds toward infrastructure, education, the elderly, Medicare and human services in general.

Christendom’s Greatest Cathedral to Become a Mosque

Sunday, June 23rd, 2013

by Raymond Ibrahim*

While unrest in Turkey continues to capture attention, more subtle and more telling events concerning the Islamification of Turkey — and not just at the hands of Prime Minister Erdogan but majorities of Turks — are quietly transpiring. These include the fact that Turkey’s Hagia Sophia museum is on its way to becoming a mosque.

Why does the fate of an old building matter?

Because Hagia Sophia — Greek for “Holy Wisdom” — was for some thousand years Christianity’s greatest cathedral. Built in 537 A.D. in Constantinople, the heart of the Christian empire, it was also a stalwart symbol of defiance against an ever encroaching Islam from the east.

After parrying centuries of jihadi thrusts, Constantinople was finally sacked by Ottoman Turks in 1453. Its crosses desecrated and icons defaced, Hagia Sophia — as well as thousands of other churches — was immediately converted into a mosque, the tall minarets of Islam surrounding it in triumph.

Alicia Keys Makes a Standout Show of Support for Israel

Saturday, June 22nd, 2013

by Join the Boycott (@jointheboycott)

In an industry that has shown a distressing and cowardly acquiescence to pressure from anti-Israel extremists, the music world now has a standout courageous voice of support for Israel. One of today’s top recording artists, Alicia Keys (see video below), who is scheduled to perform in Tel Aviv on July 4, has refused to bow to pressure to cancel from Boycott, Divestment and Sanctions (BDS) extremists, whose bullying tactics border on intimidation. In addition, USA Today shockingly joined the bullying, publishing online, almost verbatim, the words of a BDS press release. Alicia Keys response to BDS was mercurial and sweet. “I look forward to performing in Israel” she said. Kudos. Among the betrayers who have capitulated to the extremists’ pressure are Bon Jovi, Carlos Santana, and Annie Lennox, actors Dustin Hoffman and Meg Ryan, and singer Stevie Wonder cancelled a Friends of IDF support appearance in Los Angeles. JtB urges you not support any of the betraying artists. But Alicia, we are proud of you. Please tweet messages of support (@aliciakeys) and sign this petition supporting her. Kudos also to the many other artists who have rejected the extremists, among them the Rolling Stones, Madonna, Sir Elton John, Justin Bieber, Pet Shop Boys, Alanis Morissette, etc. 6/20/13

Violence and Context in Islamic Texts

Saturday, June 22nd, 2013

by Mark Durie*

Recently, the journalist Paul Sheehan, reflecting on the Woolwich beheading of Drummer Lee Rigby, invited consideration of the view of Muslim violence in authoritative Islamic texts. In the Sydney Morning Herald of May 27, 2013, Sheehan observed that the Koran and the teachings of Muhammad seem to be a factor behind Muslim violence, and offered these critical observations:

  • Many violent attacks on civilians are done in the name of Islam.
  • The existence of violent Islamic sectarian conflict and the repression of religious dissent in Muslim nations give the lie to the “absurd claim” that Islam is “the religion of peace.”
  • Many verses in the Koran call for violence against unbelievers, and these are invoked by Muslims who murder others: “So many Muslims have been encouraged to murder civilians by such exhortations that the rate of violent incidents perpetrated in the name of Islam is staggering, a toll that shows no sign of subsiding.”

UNICEF’s Blood Libel Against Israel

Friday, June 21st, 2013

by Phyllis Chesler

UNICEF has just released a report which constitutes a Blood Libel against the state of Israel. The UN body claims that Israeli forces have mistreated Palestinian children and have “degraded” and “tortured” those in custody.

The world media is picking this up as is the Israeli left media.

Author of Patriot Act says Obama must stop abusing it

Thursday, June 20th, 2013

The man who wrote the Patriot Act, Rep. James Sensenbrenner (R-WI), recently published an article in The Guardian entitled “This abuse of the Patriot Act must end,” concluding “President Obama falsely claims Congress authorised all NSA surveillance. In fact, our law was designed to protect liberties.” He’s right. Investor’s Business Daily pointed out that the massive (and ludicrous) NSA surveillance operation under Obama didn’t detect the Boston bombers and:

… the Patriot Act’s author says this isn’t the targeted surveillance intended and warns of losing needles in a too-big haystack. …

But we want to preserve the records of every housewife in Des Moines because data mining that arguably invades the privacy rights of innocent Americans might reveal something. …

Here’s Sensenbrenner in his own words:

What Turkey’s Riots Mean

Thursday, June 20th, 2013

by Daniel Pipes*

Rebellion has shaken Turkey since May 31: Is it comparable to the Arab upheavals that overthrew four rulers since 2011, to Iran’s Green Movement of 2009 that led to an apparent reformer being elected president last week, or perhaps to Occupy Wall Street, which had negligible consequences?

OPPOSE IMMIGRATION AMNESTY IN 3 EASY WAYS

Tuesday, June 18th, 2013

The Senate is voting on an immigration amnesty bill that may destroy America. Urge your senators to vote AGAINST the amnesty bill, S. 744. ASK THEM TO PUT BORDER SECURITY FIRST. You can save this great nation with just a little time and effort:

All the information you need about S. 744 is summarized here (opens in a new tab/window), but here are some bullet points, too:

S. 744 would, according to NumbersUSA:

  • give work permits and legalization to 11+ million illegal aliens in the first year, and entice millions more foreign workers to come illegally in the future;
  • double authorized immigration to 22 million over the next decade, swamping the 20 million Americans who want a full-time job and can’t find one;
  • add millions of less-educated, low-wage immigrants to all the country’s welfare and entitlement programs; and,
  • do all of the above without even guaranteeing improved enforcement at the border and workplace in the future.

According to the Center for Immigration Studies, Amnesty is not just for illegals under SB 744, but will apply to the employers of illegal aliens:

… Amnesty for employers found to have employed illegal aliens or who are currently employing illegal aliens. …

Amnesty for employers who did not withhold and/or submit payroll taxes for individuals illegally in the United States. …

Amnesty for employers who violated labor laws by paying unfair wages, who failed to pay wages, etc. …

Amnesty for employers who violated labor laws by paying unfair wages, who failed to pay wages, etc. …

Amnesty for employers who facilitated Social Security fraud and identity theft by providing or accepting false Social Security numbers. …

According to Senators Cruz, Grassley, Lee and Sessions, S. 744:

  1. Provides immediate legalization without securing the border;
  2. Rewards criminal aliens, absconders and deportees and undermines law enforcement;
  3. Contains extremely dangerous national security loopholes;
  4. Facilitates fraud in our immigration system;
  5. Creates no real penalties for illegal immigrants and rewards them with entitlements;
  6. Delays for years the implementation of E-Verify;
  7. Does not fix our legal immigration system;
  8. Advanced through a process predicated on a deal struck before mark-up; and,
  9. Rewards those who have broken our laws by offering a special path to citizenship.

Muslim Persecution of Christians: March, 2013

U.S. Defends “Human Rights” of Persecutors of Christians

by Raymond Ibrahim*

The Islamic jihad against Christians in Nigeria is proving to be the most barbaric. A new report states that 70% of Christians killed around the world in 2012 were killed in the African nation. Among some of the atrocities committed in March alone, at least 41 people were killed in a suicide bomb attack at a bus station in a predominantly Christian neighborhood. According to the Christian Association of Nigeria, these attacks “were a signpost of the intended extermination of Christians and Christianity from northern Nigeria.”
