Obama Wins, Muslims Divided

Wednesday, November 12th, 2008

by Daniel Pipes*

Ali ibn Abi-Talib, the seventh-century figure central to Shiite Islam, is said to have predicted when the world will end, columnist Amir Taheri points out. A “tall black man” commanding “the strongest army on earth” will take power “in the west.” He will carry “a clear sign” from the third imam, Hussein. Ali says of the tall black man: “Shiites should have no doubt that he is with us.”

The Islamist Role in the 2008 Canadian Elections

Sunday, November 9th, 2008

By Raheel Raza*

If you are Canadian and Islamist, you probably voted for the New Democratic Party (NDP), which won 18.2% of the vote on October 14, 2008. This was an increase in of about 1% in the vote and led to seven more seats from the 2006 elections. However, the party could not budge itself from its permanent 4th place in Canada’s parliament. Endorsed by the Canadian Islamic Congress (CIC), the left-leaning NDP has shown an incredible lack of understanding of the Islamist agenda and how soft jihadis are using democratic institutions by manipulating our respect for multiculturalism.

Québec City Celebrates 400th Anniversary [Photo Gallery]

Friday, September 5th, 2008

By Andrew L. Jaffee

Calling Quebec City “picturesque” is an understatement. The center of French culture in the Western Hemisphere, it is perched above the mighty St. Lawrence seaway. Outdoor activities like whale-watching, cross-country skiing, biking, and roller-blading are the norm. Arts and artists abound, from opera to street musicians, to galleries, to art museums. First-class restaurants cater to almost any palate. Since 1608, the Quebecois have tenaciously preserved their beautiful culture and are celebrating their capital city’s 400th anniversary.

In 1535, French explorer Jacques Cartier landed near present-day Quebec City. Another French explorer, Samuel de Champlain, officially founded the city in 1608. Through various trials and tribulations, the Quebecois have preserved and enhanced French culture in North America. Quebec is home to one of the largest French populations outside France. Indeed, nearby Montreal is the largest French-speaking city outside of France. I say “French-speaking” because first and foremost, most of the people of Quebec consider themselves Quebecois, and consider Quebec their homeland — not France.

For all our sakes, Canada must stand with Georgia

Tuesday, August 12th, 2008

By Canadian Coalition for Democracies

Ottawa, Canada - Russia’s invasion of Georgia has made public the brutal face of the Russian bear. Again, Russia has set out to crush independence, undermine sovereignty and mock the democratic aspirations of its former vassal states. The disintegration of the Soviet Union had set back the Russian bear only momentarily, its weakness and lies exposed. But the Russian bear has returned menacingly and turned the clock back to 1968 when it crushed the Prague spring as it is doing today in Georgia.

JDL Stages Demonstration at Arab Federation Building

By Fern Sidman

Defiant chants of “Condemn Muslim Terrorism Now” and “Jewish Blood Is Not Cheap” could be heard in streets of downtown Toronto, on Thursday afternoon, July 31st, as 30 members of Toronto’s Jewish Defense League staged an angry demonstration in front of the offices of the Canadian Arab Federation. Responding to the dramatic rise in anti-Semitic attacks on Jews by Muslims in the Toronto area, Meir Weinstein, director of the JDL in Toronto said, “The abject silence on the part of the Canadian Arab Federation in the face of vitriolic attacks on Jews by Muslim perpetrators is tantamount to tacit approval of anti-Semitism and gives a green light to others who would entertain the notion of attacking Jews.”

Toronto 18 Testimony: Eager Islamist Terrorists

Thursday, June 12th, 2008

By Andrew L. Jaffee

The stupidity and overzealousness of Islamist terrorists doesn’t make them any less dangerous. Case in point, the “Toronto 18, which was busted during a massive police sweep in the summer of 2006.” The trial of the idiotic would-be murderers in now taking place in Brampton, Ontario. It turns out that this group was planning to hit Ottawa, not just Toronto, and had American friends planning to cause mayhem in Atlanta. Here are some highlights from the testimony:

Fearing his days were “numbered” and his arrest imminent, the alleged ringleader of a homegrown terror cell wanted to forge ahead and build explosives to carry out a “mission” that included an attack on Ottawa, a Brampton court was told yesterday.

“I’m just gonna go all out with the mission call, man, like fully all out,” he is overheard saying in an electronic intercept. “If we had more money, guy, I would have just strapped up, like, as many people as possible. … ‘Cause this is tense.” …

CCD urges immediate action on eligibility of Qazi Hussain Ahmad to enter Canada

Friday, May 23rd, 2008

Ottawa, Canada - The Canadian Coalition for Democracies (CCD) is calling on the federal government to review the application for a Canadian visa by Mr. Qazi Hussain Ahmad, who has been invited to speak in Canada this weekend.

“Our research suggests that Qazi Hussain Ahmad is the name of a notorious Pakistani Islamist banned in 2007 from entering Egypt, and in 2004 from entering over 25 European countries for reasons of National Security,” said Alastair Gordon, President, CCD. “We have confirmed that a man by this name has been invited to speak at the Islamic Society of North America (ISNA) 34th annual convention endorsed by the Canadian Council on American-Islamic Relations (CAIR-CAN), the Islamic Circle of North America (ICNA Canada), and the Muslim Association of Canada (MAC), and sponsored by Human Concern International (HCI).”

Canadian PM Harper: Anti-Israel = Anti-Semitic

Monday, May 12th, 2008

By Andrew L. Jaffee

Canada’s Prime Minister Stephen Harper, leader of one of the world’s greatest liberal democracies, has the courage to stem the politically-correct tide, and to stand squarely in support of Israel. In a speech commemorating the 60th anniversary of the founding of Israel, he said that the Jewish State, “is a tribute to the unquenchable human aspiration for freedom, and a testament to the indomitable spirit of the Jewish people.” In comments made the same week on a Toronto radio station, he said that the current fad of anti-Israel sentiment boils down to nothing but anti-Semitism. I encourage you to read the excerpts shown below, and to follow the links to read the full text of Harper’s courageous statements.

Canadian Jews Battle Anti-Israel Propaganda

Thursday, February 7th, 2008

By Fern Sidman

For the 4th consecutive year, anti-Israel apologists and propagandists will be convening at the University of Toronto, York University and Ryerson University in Toronto, Canada for a three week event (Feb 3-19) called Israel Apartheid Week. As in years past, the major objective of this smear campaign is to impugn and excoriate the Jewish State as a racist entity, as well as organizing symposiums to further an agenda of academic boycott and BDS (boycott, divestments and sanctions) against Israel. Through a series of cleverly crafted gross distortions of facts, outright lies and half-truths, the organizers of this event which include the Coalition Against Israeli Apartheid, Women in Solidarity with Palestine and the Arab Law Students Association have couched their flagrantly fraudulent and incendiary rhetoric in academic and intellectual terms in order to gain credibility. One of the groups participating in Israeli Apartheid Week is the Toronto Coalition to Stop the War, which obtained its place in historical infamy by traveling Egypt in March of 2007 to attend a conference intended to forge closer links between the international antiwar movement and Islamic resistance groups, including several on Canada’s terrorism list.

CCD applauds Harper government for withdrawal of support for UN ‘anti-racism’ conference

Thursday, January 24th, 2008

By Canadian Coalition for Democracies

Ottawa, Canada - The Stephen Harper government has withdrawn its support for a UN anti-racism conference scheduled to take place next year in South Africa, according to a media release today from the Department of Foreign Affairs and International Trade.

Jason Kenney, secretary of state for multiculturalism and Canadian identity, said today that the conference, like its predecessor in 2001, “has gone completely off the rails… Canada is interested in combating racism, not promoting it. We’ll attend any conference that is opposed to racism and intolerance, not those that actually promote racism and intolerance”.

Mark Steyn Is Not Alone

Wednesday, January 16th, 2008

by Brooke M. Goldstein*

Award-winning author Mark Steyn has been summoned to appear before two Canadian Human Rights Commissions on vague allegations of “subject[ing] Canadian Muslims to hatred and contempt” and being “flagrantly Islamophobic” after Maclean’s magazine published an excerpt from his book, America Alone.

The public inquisition of Steyn has triggered outrage among Canadians and Americans who value free speech, but it should not come as a surprise. Steyn’s predicament is just the latest salvo in a campaign of legal actions designed to punish and silence the voices of anyone who speaks out against Islamism, Islamic terrorism, or its sources of financing.

By Andrew Whitehead

The Council on American-Islamic Relations - Canada (CAIR-CAN) recently issued a press release calling for “zero tolerance” regarding domestic abuse in Canada.

http://www.caircan.ca/itn_more.php?id=2957_0_2_0_C

The press release involved a 16 year-old teenager, Aqsa Parvez, who was apparently strangled to death by her father for refusing to wear the traditional hijab outside her home. Her father has reportedly confessed to the murder.

We Will Not Tolerate Honor Killings in the West: The Aqsa Parvez Shelter for Battered Muslim Women

Tuesday, December 18th, 2007

By Phyllis Chesler

Aqsa Parvez, the tragic sixteen year old slain by her father in an honor killing in Canada, was buried secretly and privately. Her teenage friends arrived hours too late at the Islamic Center where they had been told her funeral would take place. The kind of family and culture capable of honor murder (she and her family are all Pakistani immigrants) is also quite capable of denying her Canadian friends the opportunity of paying their last respects.

How stupid is this idea?

Monday, October 8th, 2007

By Salim Mansur

Public policy is generally judged on the basis of its intended effect.

But not infrequently the public is left to contend with the unintended consequences of a policy — for instance, the NEP of the Trudeau years or the Meech Lake Accord of the Mulroney years — long after the intended effects would have been consummated.

Politicians seek the glow of the intended effects of policies they initiate, and flee from the unintended consequences of those same policies that might leave the society worse off than the situation when a particular policy was proposed or enacted.
