This past week U.S. President Obama made Susan Rice his new National Security Adviser and Samantha Power his ambassador to the UN. Both women have the kind of credentials, loyalty and temperament that Obama needs to go full steam ahead on his second term agenda which includes the Obamification of the world, further apologizing for America, weakening the U.S. at every opportunity and saying “sorry” by supporting the most dangerous players on the world stage. The President is effectively giving up America’s position as defender of freedom and promoter of democracy and Judeo-Christian values. The Pax Americana era has long since disappeared. The safety derived from strength has disappeared. A state of vulnerability has resulted from political correctness and contrived shame that Obama conveys as a mea culpa for the U.S. having once been a dominant nation.

[ACT NOW to stop immigration amnesty from destroying the American dream]

The manner in which the Gang of Eight’s S.744 reached the floor of the Senate included a mix of both open democracy and behind-the-doors secrecy.

Regardless of the merits of the omnibus immigration bill (which many find wanting) the procedures used to get the bill to, and through, the Senate Judiciary Committee were both interesting and uneven. I have been following the bill for weeks and watched many hours of the Committee’s mark-up, during which it considered, at least nominally, hundreds of amendments.

You might say that there were three phases of the bill’s history so far.

Lois Lerner, the Director of the IRS Unit responsible for ruling on applications for tax-exempt status has refused to testify. She is taking the Fifth.

There is an eerie resonance in America and especially in Hollywood, when someone “takes the fifth.” It harks back to the McCarthy hearings in the early 1950s, when the “good guys” refused to name their friends as communists. We remember how great filmmakers and script writers — “good people” — were cruelly blackballed for refusing to name names; instead, they endured decades of poverty and ostracism. We remember them as heroes. Perhaps they were.

[ACT NOW to stop immigration amnesty from destroying the American dream]

One of the most alarming effects of the Schumer-Rubio amnesty, if enacted in anything close to its current form, would be the legalization of tens of thousands of illegal aliens who have already been a public safety threat in their community. The eligibility criteria established for the amnesty and most of the new guestworker provisions excuse a wide variety of criminal behavior, including gang membership, drunk driving, vehicular manslaughter, identity theft, and immigration fraud (see this analysis). In addition, the bill offers amnesty to those who have repeatedly and flagrantly violated immigration laws.

Errors by the party in power can get America into trouble; real catastrophes require consensus.

Rarely have both parties been as unanimous about a development overseas as they have in their shared enthusiasm for the so-called Arab Spring during the first months of 2011. Republicans vied with the Obama Administration in their zeal for the ouster of Egypt’s dictator Hosni Mubarak and in championing the subsequent NATO intervention against Muammar Qaddafi in Libya. Both parties saw themselves as having been vindicated by events. The Obama Administration saw its actions as proof that soft power in pursuit of humanitarian goals offered a new paradigm for foreign-policy success. And the Republican establishment saw a vindication of the Bush freedom agenda.

Synonym: par·don (pahr-dn) a release from the penalty of an offense; forgiveness of a serious offense or offender; to release (a person) from liability for an offense; to remit the penalty of (an offense)

Led by Senator Marco Rubio, the “Gang of Eight” is attempting to hide the fact that their “comprehensive immigration reform” bill would provide amnesty for illegal aliens and their employers.

Rubio argues that illegal aliens would not be forgiven of past, harmless infractions, but would be required to pay for them. However, a review of the bill shows that the token penalties, when they do exist, are not commensurate with the employment-related felonies committed by the vast majority of illegal aliens, nor are they commensurate with the benefits received by illegal aliens. The penalties are, therefore, no more than thinly veiled attempts to hide the amnesty provisions of S. 744.

Here, you can thank those senators who voted yesterday against the destruction of the Second Amendment via phone, email, Twitter, and Facebook. These senators deserve our continual support. They acted as they should because “Upon taking office, senators-elect must swear or affirm that they will ‘support and defend the Constitution.’” Even though the Second Amendment is quite clear to many Americans, as it succinctly states that “the right of the people to keep and bear arms, shall not be infringed,” there are extremists who care nothing about our great nation’s founding principles. But these pro-Second Amendment senators stepped up to the plate for gun rights full-well knowing that they will be targeted by special interest groups for being “soft” on gun control.

After the defeat of anti-gun rights legislation, President Obama “flashed anger as he said that the gun rights lobby had ‘willfully lied’ about the legislation, and that Republicans and Democrats had ‘caved to the pressure’” of the supposedly nefarious gun lobby. But was Obama really doing the lying?”

WE WON! The Toomey/Manchin botched “background check” bill, rather an unconstitutional and erosion-of-personal-privacy bill, lost in the Senate by a vote of 54-46. Senator Feinstein’s amendment to ban assault weapons — which are not “assault” weapons — lost by a vote of 60-40. Her equally nonsensical “proposal” to place limits on the size of ammo magazines lost by a vote of 54-46. Of course, President Obama threw a tantrum for not being able to trample on the constitutional right to bear arms. He “flashed anger as he said that the gun rights lobby had ‘willfully lied’ about the legislation, and that Republicans and Democrats had ‘caved to the pressure’” of the supposedly nefarious gun lobby. But who was doing the “lying?”

One of the Senate’s supposedly most conservative Republicans, Patrick J. Toomey, and one of the Senate’s supposedly most conservative Democrats, Joe Manchin III, agreed to a “compromise” on gun control — purportedly during an “Amtrak trip from New York to Washington where they happened to intersect.” They claim their bill will strengthen background checks as a prerequisite to gun purchases. Then — voila — a Republican Representative, Peter King, appears saying he will support the Toomey/Manchin “compromise” if it makes it to the House. Coincidence? Or was all of this a done deal long ago? This is worrisome — almost too “coincidental.” THAT’S WHY YOU MUST ACT NOW, CONTACTING YOUR SENATORS, BUT REALLY TURNING UP THE HEAT ON THE HOUSE.

When citizens rose up in a grassroots campaign and stopped the “background check” bill and other anti-Second Amendment legislation in April, we had cause to celebrate our victory. But President Obama and Senate Democrats, like Dianne Feinstein (D-CA), Charles Schumer (D-NY), and Majority Leader Senator Harry Reid (D-NV), are going to continue to do everything they can to destroy the Second Amendment, our great Constitution’s guarantee that “the right of the people to keep and bear arms, shall not be infringed.” These anti-gun proponents have no scruples, and will do and/or say practically anything to disarm good citizens. Purportedly, Harry Reid is going to “use his gun bill to portray Republicans as ‘rape supporters.’”

Still quietly lurking in the background is the specter of a new Senate and House push for consideration of legislation “that would criminalize the private transfer of firearms between law-abiding Americans,” would ban “assault weapons” and many other semi-autos, would ban “large-capacity magazines,” would require a national gun registry (see here also), and impose taxes on the gun registration process.

So say “Two prominent Democratic pollsters — Patrick Caddell and Doug Schoen,” according to Newsmax Wires. They “are criticizing President Barack Obama as harshly as any Republican.” They are part of an increasingly restive segment of the Democratic Party unhappy with Obama.
