Indians threw off the yolk of British colonial rule peacefully, and then promptly adopted a parliamentary system modeled after Britain’s. Quite an enlightened bunch, the Indians have been. They established diplomatic relations with Israel in 1992, and in 2004, bought a $1 billion early warning radar system from the Jewish state — one of the biggest military contracts in Israel’s history. Indians have (slowly) embraced a free market economy. The arts flourish on the sub-continent.

58 years of independent, democratic rule? Pretty girls and dashing young men on TV? Punjabi rappers sparring with their New York counter-parts? Strong ties with the U.S. and Israel? Naturally, India has been the target of the Islamo-fascists.

On Saturday, the Islamists set off three bombs, killing 62 and wounding 200 innocent civilians in New Delhi, India’s capital. The terrorist cowards targeted a bus and two open-air markets, seeking the maximum carnage.

Some have speculated that the Islamists are trying to sour improving Indian-Pakistani relations, or that they are retaliating for India’s presence in Kashmir. Maybe yes; maybe no.

India is a target because it has chosen to integrate with the civilized world. The country is a cornerstone in the Anglosphere. As such, it is the target of pure Islamist hatred, and no amount of reasoning can justify the atrocities committed on Saturday.

Islamic republic’s security forces attacked and wounded, this morning, tens of protesters in the northern City of Babolsar located by the Caspian sea. The protesters were hundreds of workers of the “Alborz Carpeting Company” and their family members who were demonstrating against their poor conditions and the non-payment of their wages for the last eight months.

On the very evening of the handshake between Yitzhak Rabin and Yasir Arafat on the White House lawn in September of 1993, the latter went on Jordanian television and told his constituency that it should understand the Oslo accord as the first phase in the Phased Plan elaborated by the PLO in 1974, with the ultimate goal being the destruction of Israel. Arafat repeated this assertion at least a dozen times during the first month of Oslo. Why did Israel persist in the Oslo process when upon Arafat’s arrival in the territories in July of 1994 Israel experienced the worst terror attacks in its history?

After an sustained Israeli military campaign which took out scores of Hamas terrorists, the group miraculously “pledged” to stop firing its terrorist rockets into Israel from Gaza. That was last month. Now it is Islamic Jihad’s turn (after Israel rained down justice on a few of its members):

Well-informed Palestinian sources said on Sunday that the Islamic Jihad (Holy War) has agreed to cease rocket attacks on Israel under an agreement with the Palestinian National Authority (PNA).

The terrorist groups are petrified of Israel’s military might. The Jewish state has proven beyond a shadow of a doubt that it can pick off terrorists almost at will – probably with the help of Palestinian informants.

As don Juan would say, “Fear is the first enemy.” But the Palestinian terrorists will never get past fear, low-lifes that they are. In this case, fear is being put to good use. How reassuring to know that the jihadis are walking around with laser beads pointing at their foreheads.

Israel has largely ended the “second intifada” by methodically eliminating the militants. As Ecclesiastes says, there is “a time for war, and a time for peace.” Sometimes war is a rational solution.

Victor Davis Hanson reminds us of the vitriol being spewed by the extreme Left:

In the last six months we have heard from various demagogues — though they are recognized as such due to their prominence in the media — that we were waging nuclear war in Iraq (Cindy Sheehan), that there was cannibalism in New Orleans (Randall Robinson), that George Bush and Dick Cheney should be shot (the novelist Jane Smiley) or executed (Al Franken). Alfred Knopf has published a book about the theoretical assassination of the president, and the Nazi slur is now commonplace in Democratic circles, where a Senator Dick Durbin or Ted Kennedy slanders American soldiers as akin to either Saddam’s torturers or even Nazis and Stalinists. The case needs to be made that we are seeing a new paranoid style — but from the Left, whose opponents are not to be out-argued, but rather deemed worthy of death or demonization as Nazis. The recent eclipse of George Galloway — due in no large part to Christopher Hitchens’ lonely and underappreciated pursuit of his perfidy — reminds us how hard these reprobates finally will fall.

I respectfully add the following to the list: Kamau Kambon, visiting professor at North Carolina State University, advocates the elimination of all white people on the planet; U of Colorado prof Ward Churchill calls 9/11 victims “Nazis;” Harry Belafonte refers to Condoleezza Rice and Colin Powell as “Uncle Toms;” and Howard Dean quips that African Americans are only good for the dirty jobs as “hotel staff.”

Millions of Iranians boycotted, today, the yearly “Qhods (Jerusalem) Day” rally which is organized by the Islamic republic regime in order to wage hate against Israel and the Jewish people. This Islamist-racist action was initiated by Rooh-Ollah Khomeini, the founder of the theocratic regime, in 1979. He made of the destruction of Israel one of the pillar of his backwarded creation.

This year’s rally should have been the most important ever, as, the new Islamic President has started to openly request the wiping off the map of the State of Israel. But more than ever, Iranians stayed home or used their Friday in order to go out of cities and turn their backs to the unpopular Islamic regime and its new symbol of power.

A consortium of women from the Islamic world are callling for a “gender jihad” to promote equality and rights for the other half of Islam’s population. I wish them all the best, but their primary obstruction in such an endeavor is the immovable literalism that Islam has been beset with since its inception.

I’m glad people are “outraged” over Iranian President Ahmadinejad’s genocidal rant — for Israel to be “wiped off the map.” All 15 members of the UN Security Council agreed on a resolution condemning Ahmadinejad. Algeria, China, Russia, the Vatican — even the Palestinian Authority — have censured this Islamist thug.

But it is a sad commentary on “world opinion” that it took so long to notice that “Death to Israel!” is common parlance for Iran’s Islamist dictators:

Correspondents say the UK government does not regard Mr Ahmadinejad’s stance on Israel as a new policy but more as a sign of his inexperience and the very local focus of his government.

“Not new policy.” That is an understatement. How long have Iran’s mullahs tortured their own people and threatened Israel? How long has Iran been the world’s “most active state sponsor of terrorism?”

But one of Iran’s closest allies, Syria’s Assad family, is teetering on the brink, and Iran finds itself more and more isolated because of its nuclear weapons program. Pressure for accountability is mounting on the UN, as its dirty laundry can now be examined and aired instantly over the Internet. The “world body” will be pressed to act — eventually; hopefully before Iran launches any nukes.

Our free-market economy is just unstoppable:

The U.S. economy shook off headwinds from hurricanes Katrina and Rita to grow at a faster-than-expected 3.8 percent annual rate in the third quarter, a Commerce Department report showed Friday.

Iraqis are learning the intricacies of democratic politics, as “accountability has taken root.” Coalitions are being formed and reshuffled. Pundits are speculating on party endorsements. A free press is flourishing. Millions have voted in two rounds of elections. Sunnis participated big-time in most recent elections, allaying all the fears about whether they were “engaged.” With a new constitution ratified – the vote endorsed by the UN – Iraqis are entering the final stretch in proving that democracy can work in an Arab country (the Lebanese have recently proved that, too).

Here’s some political play-by-play from the BBC (here and here):

Iraq’s ruling Shia-led coalition [United Iraqi Alliance (UIA)] has confirmed that it will contest the upcoming parliamentary election as a single bloc. …

The UIA is a broad-based coalition of over 20 groups, dominated by Shias, but also including Sunnis, Christians, Turkomans and Kurds.

…and…

The two main Kurdish parties - the Democratic Kurdistan Party and the Patriotic Union of Kurdistan - will also be running together, they announced.

While the main Shia and Kurd alliances that contested the previous election in January remain much the same, other groups will also fight the election.

Three Sunni parties that boycotted the vote in January have set up a coalition, the Iraqi Accord Front.

The new Sunni alliance, announced on Tuesday, called on Iraqis to take part in the December’s poll and to reject any calls for a boycott.

A fourth challenge for votes will come from the Shia former Prime Minister Iyad Allawi, who has expanded his secular list to include Sunni personalities, as well as communists and liberals.

Here we go again with 2nd-term presidents’ menopause (Reagan’s Iran/Contra, Clinton’s Lewinsky). CNN.com is reporting:

I. Lewis “Scooter” Libby, Vice President Dick Cheney’s chief of staff, was indicted Friday on charges related to the investigation into the unmasking of a CIA operative.

Libby was indicted on one count of obstruction of justice, two counts of perjury and two counts of making false statements, court documents show.

The indictments were not related to the actual leak of operative Valerie Plame’s name.

Just as democracy is taking firm root in Iraq:

David Gergen, a former adviser to presidents Nixon, Ford, Reagan and Clinton, told CNN’s “Larry King Live” that indictments in the case could have an enormous impact on the Iraq war.

“Because if there are indictments, it will not only be people close to the president, the vice president of the United States, but they will raise questions about whether criminal acts were perpetrated to help get the country into war.”

It may be a bit premature for such prognostications, but this certainly is not great news for Bush. This all could have been handled better, but my hindsight is (not) 20-20. The Demo-vultures are already circling, but this too shall pass (great news on the economy will help soften the blow).

A controversial “American Enterprise Institute” (AEI) conference on Iran, which took place yesterday, has boosted the wave of indignation and emotion among most Iranians. The event, labeled as “Unknown Iran - Another case for Federalism?”, was already shattered due to several days of protest actions which have started since October 17th.

There goes the BBC again, seeking to explain Iranian President Ahmadinejad’s incitement to genocide, and implying that UK Prime Minister Blair is the one doing the saber-rattling:

Tony Blair has expressed “revulsion” at the Iranian president’s assertion that he wanted Israel “wiped off the map”.

Mr Blair told an EU summit at Hampton Court, near London, that he had “never come across” comments like those made by Mahmoud Ahmadinejad on Wednesday.

He added that Iran, suspected of having a nuclear weapons programme, could soon be considered a “real threat”.

But Iran later accused the West of turning a blind eye to what it called Israel’s “crimes”.

EU leaders earlier issued a joint statement saying they condemned Mr Ahmadinejad’s remarks.

BBC political editor Nick Robinson said Mr Blair’s comments carried the “implicit threat of military action”.
