On the Airwaves: 24/7 Muslim Programming

Monday, October 23rd, 2006

By Fern Sidman

It has recently been reported that the American television airwaves will now include a 24 hour channel dedicated to Islamic programming. The new cable channel being broadcast by the Comcast Cable company is called Bridges TV, and is the brainchild of American Muslim banker, Muzzamil Hassan and his wife, Osea Zubare, an architect. The new channel is broadcast in English and is being seen on cable, satellite and broadband networks. It is being billed as the “American Muslim Lifestyle Network” and according to Hassan, the funding for this new channel is coming primarily from American Muslim investors as well as Wall Street venture capital and private equity firms. Hassan asserts that there is no foreign funding for this channel.

Sudan: Anger Means Guilt

Sunday, October 22nd, 2006

By Andrew L. Jaffee

Since February 2003, the Sudanese government in Khartoum and the government-sponsored Janjaweed militia have used rape, displacement, organized starvation, threats against aid workers and mass murder to kill more than 400,000 and displace almost 2.5 million people. Violence, disease, and displacement continue to kill thousands of innocent Darfurians every month.

- Genocide Intervention Network

That any government would sponsor such an atrocity is unconscionable. Maybe a little bit of embarrassment? Not at all. The Khartoum government continues to support this genocide, is completely unrepentant, and now very angry at the UN because one of its envoys, Jan Pronk:

Misguided reconciliation with Baathists

Sunday, October 22nd, 2006

by Michael Rubin*

Violence in Iraq shows no sign of easing. With Americans soon to head to the polls and the U.S. death toll in Iraq nearing 3,000, the mission is certainly not accomplished. Politicians and pundits both line up to point the finger of blame. The insurgency in Iraq is the fault of poor leadership, they argue.

Barron’s ignores the polls, give Repubs the lead

Sunday, October 22nd, 2006

By Andrew L. Jaffee

Barron’s today has an interesting analysis into the November elections, claiming that Republicans will hold both the House and Senate because they’re outspending Democrats, which is “a sign of superior grass-roots support.” You decide:

Iraq: The Battle War that Probably Won’t be Fought

Sunday, October 22nd, 2006

By Andrew L. Jaffee

What a surprise, the Iraq war’s course is scaring the hell out of Republicans, given the Democrats something to drool over, and causing despair to people like me who supported the effort for a long time. The only solution left to the U.S. is an all-out, no-holds-barred assault on Iraq’s “militants” and anyone related to them — something akin to how the Allies finished off Hitler and Hirohito in WWII, or Julius Caeser’s defeat of Versongeterix’s Gallic army, or Alexander’s defeat of Persian King Darius at Gaugamela, or the Lithuanian/Polish defeat of the Teutonic Knights at Grunwald. But history has already been forgotten, public relations rules, and I doubt that the U.S.-led coalition is willing to carry out such a massive strike against terrorism in Iraq. The Coalition was on the right track when it wrested Fallujah from Baathist/Sunni terrorist hands in 2004 — the so-called Second Battle of Fallujah or officially, Operation Al-Fajr. This battle was a tactical and regional success, as Fallujah has been relatively quiet since its militants were crushed. Unfortunately, politics and public relations — mainly the fear of civilian and Coalition casualties — will most likely prevent the U.S. from applying this strategy to the rest of Iraq.

Conclusion First, Debate Afterwards: The stacked Baker-Hamilton Commission

Saturday, October 21st, 2006

by Michael Rubin*

Policymakers are abuzz with the explosive recommendations for U.S. policy toward Iraq soon to be released by the Baker-Hamilton Commission: Abandon democracy, seek political compromise with the Sunni insurgents, and engage Tehran and Damascus as partners to secure stability in their neighbor. While former secretary of state James Baker and former representative Lee Hamilton said they would withhold their report until after the elections on November 7 to avoid its politicization, they have discussed their findings with the press. On October 8, for example, Baker appeared on ABC’s This Week, and the next day he discussed the group’s findings with Charlie Rose. On October 12, both Baker and Hamilton appeared on The NewsHour with Jim Lehrer.

Ahmadinejad: Bass Ackwards

Saturday, October 21st, 2006

By Andrew L. Jaffee

Poor little persecuted Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad has it backwards (the head up the #ss syndrome). Friday he “called Israel’s leaders a ‘group of terrorists’” and claimed that the Jewish state would “disappear.” Hmmm… The pot calling the kettle black? Iran is the world’s “most active state sponsor of terrorism.” Ahmadinejad rules his people with brute force, and his economy is a shambles despite the nation’s rich oil and mineral wealth. Democracy flourishes in Israel and its GDP is $120.9 billion — produced by a tiny population of 6 million. Iran’s population is 69 million and its GDP is $561.6 billion. Can he do the math? Israel tops the Economist Intelligence Unit (EIU)’s Index of Political Freedom, while Iran is at the bottom of the list. Ass backwards… Or, as my father used to say, “He should saw his toilet seat in half, because he’s so half-assed.”

A New Terrorist Haven: The frightening advance of Islamists in Somalia

Saturday, October 21st, 2006

by Daveed Gartenstein-Ross & Bill Roggio*

WHEN FIGHTERS from the radical Islamic Courts Union (ICU) seized Mogadishu, capital of Somalia, in early June, the Western world briefly noticed. Analysts and talking heads were concerned that the country could become a terrorist haven. Then the media largely lost interest, though the situation remains dire. The ICU is on the verge of winning an even bigger strategic victory, and its links to international terrorism have become impossible to deny.

MoveOn.org people call Catholics pedophiles and baby rapers

Friday, October 20th, 2006

The latest from the MoveOn.org Ministry of Hate (Action Forum), as archived by Google’s cache. “But until the priests are hounded down and arrested like the baby rapers they are, the neverending cycle will continue. You want to throw a monkey wrench in both political parties? Call for the arrest and immediate incarceration of the Catholic Pedophiles of America. ” We remind Pennsylvania’s Catholic voters (and all decent people who have no use for bigots of any kind) that Bob Casey is knowingly and willfully accepting this hate organization’s support, and has refused civil requests by several Jewish and Catholic groups to reject it.

Palestinian on Palestinian Car Swarm

Friday, October 20th, 2006

By Andrew L. Jaffee

And you thought Palestinian car swarms were reserved only for Jew-hatred. Think again. Heck, Palestinians can’t even make peace between their own factions — and Israel is expected to live quietly next to this chaos? From Fox News:

Disgruntled relatives of a Fatah activist killed in recent internecine fighting with Hamas fired at Prime Minister Ismail Haniyeh’s motorcade as it drove through Gaza on Friday but the Hamas leader’s armored Mercedes car was not hit and nobody was injured, Palestinian security officials said. …

Palestinian car swarm...

Palestinians gather around a burning security vehicle from the convoy of Palestinian Authority Prime Minister Ismail Haniyeh.

The REAL Reason Kim is Contrite on His Nukes

Friday, October 20th, 2006

By Andrew L. Jaffee

Oh, so now North Korean leader Kim Jong-Il has “expressed regret” over shooting off a nuclear weapon? The only reason he’s being contrite is because his trigger-happiness has hurt his little ol’ wallet:

Also Friday, employees of Chinese banks said they have suspended financial transactions to North Korea under orders from Beijing. China is the North’s main trading partner, and the step could be a serious blow to its frail economy.

Somalia’s Islamist Lifeguards

Friday, October 20th, 2006

By Andrew L. Jaffee

As a kid, I remember many a summer day at the public pool when the lifeguards would burst our bubble by calling, “Everyone out of the pool — timeout.” The lifeguards would regularly empty the pool so that children wouldn’t get too tired. Oh, woe is me. What suffering (NOT!) to have grown up in the U.S. While the Left complains about Western “imperialism,” it takes for granted all those things that make liberty wonderful, and sweeps Islamist savagery under the rug.

Somalis are not so fortunate. The new Taliban have ordered women out of the pool:

Hollywood Stars and the Greenhouse Effect

Friday, October 20th, 2006

By Andrew L. Jaffee

What do George Clooney, Julia Roberts, Jennifer Lopez, and Brad Pitt have in common, besides an absence of intelligence, unbelievable wealth, and membership in Hollywood’s exclusive club of nihilists? They are eco-hypocrites and narcissists. From TMZ.com:

MoveOn.org cartoons for your entertainment

Thursday, October 19th, 2006

The following cartoons represent our position on MoveOn.org and its hate-filled Action Forum. MoveOn.org stands for NOTHING that any mainstream Democrat would recognize as representative of his or her party.

Speaking of which, our advice to people whom MoveOn.org has asked to make phone calls to turn out the vote is to make the calls on behalf of your local Democratic Party instead. Don’t associate your name with an organization that sponsors racist, anti-Semitic, and anti-Catholic hate speech.

A Little Justice for Gilad Shalit

Wednesday, October 18th, 2006

By Andrew L. Jaffee

I hope the family and friends of Israeli soldier Cpl. Gilad Shalit can rest a little bit easier. Though he is still missing, and most certainly still held captive by Hamas, the terrorist group is paying a price for Shalit’s unlawful abduction:

Israel has sent tanks and troops in and out of Gaza and stepped up airstrikes against suspected militants and weapons caches since Hamas-linked militants tunneled under the border in late June and attacked an Israeli army post, killing two soldiers and capturing another, Cpl. Gilad Shalit.

On Wednesday morning, Israeli troops killed two Hamas militants as they approached army positions in Rafah, the army and Palestinians said. According to a statement from Hamas, one of the two was a senior militant involved in Shalit’s abduction.
