Poll on Muslim-West divide starts with a false premise

Monday, February 19th, 2007

By Andrew L. Jaffee

The BBC has produced a “poll of more than 28,000 people [which] found that 56 percent of respondents believed ‘common ground can be found’ between Muslims and Westerners, while only 28 percent said violence was inevitable.” Huh? Who did the Beeb interview? I’m all for being positive, but really… Those polled must’ve been smoking something pretty strong, or are just delusional. “Violence” has already occurred, most of it Muslim on Muslim — 3,709 Iraqis were killed in Sunni vs. Shiite sectarian attacks during October 2006 alone. A “bomber blew himself up in a packed room during court proceedings on Saturday, killing 15 people including Quetta’s [Pakistan] senior civil judge.” Three-hundred were trampled to death in last year’s Hajj; 1,426 killed in the 1990 Hajj; 251 in 2004; etc. But this poll concentrated on West vs. Islam, and Islamists have their hands drenched in buckets of Western blood (and that of other infidels):

Israel Has No Right to Reject Mecca Pact?

Monday, February 19th, 2007

By Steven Shamrak

Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas asserted Monday that the “Mecca pact is a Palestinian interior business and Israel has no right to reject it.” Israeli prime minister Ehud Olmert warned: “Up to now, Abbas has been an opponent of Hamas. If the new government makes the same inflated demands of Israel, it will show that [Abbas] has moved from his previous position, toward Hamas.” (… but Arabs have the right to reject the right of Israel to exist! The deal does not include the recognition of Israel and the renunciation of violence.)

Saudi Human Rights: The Good, Bad, and Ugly — Mostly Ugly

Monday, February 19th, 2007

By Andrew L. Jaffee

“Our friends,” the Saudis… Human Rights Watch (HRW) has just reported on a “four-week fact finding mission [to Saudi Arabia] in December [which] focused on a range of human rights concerns, including unfair trials, children’s detention, restrictions on women’s legal identity, and abuses against foreign domestic workers.” The “good news,” if one can call it that, was that the House of Saud (royal family) actually invited HRW and, “arranged access [for HRW] to a wide range of high-level officials, while several ministers expressed their desire to invite HRW back to the kingdom to discuss the findings in detail.” The strange news: Why would the Saudis invite HRW to investigate abuses? Is the kingdom truly opening up? Is there a political split opening in the family? Is Iran’s pursuit of nukes causing Saudis to look West for allies?

Whatever the case, the royal family has allowed local elections over the past few years, and has even made diplomatic overtures towards Israel and to American Jewish groups. The bad news: Saudi human rights abuses continue unabated — like the executions of children. Here are the details:

Lula of Brazil: slavery might be OK

Sunday, February 18th, 2007

By Andrew L. Jaffee

Brazil has a hidden but serious problem of slave labor. The International Labor Organization (ILO) estimates that there are 40,000 slaves working in Brazil today.

- CSM, 2/16/07

This from a country run by leftists, where the Partido dos Trabalhadores (Workers’ Party) and a motley crew of other kookie “socialist” parties hold the reigns in Brazil’s Congress. How could these guys back off of stopping slavery?

Abbas: Give Peace a Chance

Sunday, February 18th, 2007

By Andrew L. Jaffee

Hamas’ refusal to recognise Israel has led to a crippling ban on Western financial aid since the party won elections in January last year.

Mr Haniya now has five weeks to get a new cabinet accepted by the Hamas-dominated parliament.

But if Hamas maintains its position regarding Israel, there is concern that any talks brokered by Washington will be futile.

President Abbas has called for the new administration to be given a chance.

BBC, 2/18/07

Give peace a chance? Remember that Palestinian “President” Yasser Arafat recognized Israel during the Oslo debacle, but in July 2000 rejected Israel’s generous offer to end the conflict. Palestinian terrorists then responded to Israel’s offer with the “most sustained wave of Palestinian suicide bombings in Israeli history.” The Palestinian Authority never lived up to its Oslo commitments.

Again, we’re asked to have faith:

The Octopus in the Democratic Party’s Living Room

Saturday, February 17th, 2007

Everybody knows it is there, and it is past time to talk about it.

by Bill Levinson

What is George Soros getting for the millions of dollars he has funneled, whether directly or indirectly, through NGOs and also to support the political careers of Barack Obama, Hillary Clinton, Barbara Boxer, and John Kerry? Do we really want to find out? This article will show exactly who George Soros is, the nature of his anti-American and anti-Israel agenda, and his extensive network of puppet legislators and nongovernmental organizations (NGOs).

Moral (albeit not legal) treason against the United States

by Bill Levinson

The U.S. Constitution defines treason as (1) levying war against the United States and (2) giving aid and comfort to its (presumably declared by Congress) enemies. This means that MoveOn.org-endorsed candidate John Murtha is not legally a traitor to our country. His recent actions are every bit as reprehensible as those of Vidkun Quisling, Pierre Laval, and Benedict Arnold: another former war hero who turned his coat.

Mauritania: Another Stupid Terrorist

Friday, February 16th, 2007

By Andrew L. Jaffee

Another stupid terrorist was foiled by his own idiocy — this time in Mauritania. This moron without a cause was out-foxed by a smart airliner crew who used language and boiling water to nail the sucka:

The pilot of a hijacked Air Mauritania plane deliberately made a rough landing so passengers and crew could tackle the gunman, Spanish officials say.

He tipped off passengers about the plan after realising the hijacker spoke no French, one official told AP agency. …

But as the pilot approached Gando military base near Las Palmas international airport, he used the plane’s intercom system to tell passengers in French of his plan, said AP quoting a Spanish official.

“The pilot and his colleagues decided to abruptly apply brakes on landing to throw off-balance the hijacker, who was hurled to the floor by the jerk and was quickly overpowered before being handed over to the Spanish police force,” a Mauritanian official told AFP news agency.

One report said flight attendants threw boiling water at him and around 10 people overpowered him.

The pilot, named by Air Mauritania as Ahmedou Mohamed Lemine, had urged crew members and men to sit in the front rows, ready to act, while women and children were warned to move to the rear, AP said.

U.S. Would Consider Bombing Cyber-Attackers

Friday, February 16th, 2007

By Andrew L. Jaffee

During the week of February 5, the Internet’s root-servers were targeted by cyber-criminals using a denial-of-service (DoS) attack. The Internet survived because of its resilient, distributed (redundant) nature. The threat posed by cyber-terrorists is not so much to the entire Internet, but to individual companies and organizations, as “no one corporation has the kind of replication and bandwidth that the [Internet] infrastructure has at this point.” Think of the economic repercussions a DoS attack would have if it shut down the Air Force, on-line brokerages, energy/utility companies, or ebay. The U.S. government is prepared to retaliate:

Saudi school in UK uses books that call Jews and Christians “apes and pigs”

Thursday, February 15th, 2007

It is time for all good Anglo-Americans to get in touch with their inner soccer hooligans.

by Bill Levinson

Thislondon.co.uk reports:

The principal of an Islamic school has admitted that it uses textbooks which describe Jews as “apes” and Christians as “pigs” and has refused to withdraw them.

Dr Sumaya Alyusuf confirmed that the offending books exist after former teacher Colin Cook, 57, alleged that children as young as five are taught from racist materials at the King Fahd Academy in Acton.

Lebanon’s Plea for the Simple Life

Thursday, February 15th, 2007

By Andrew L. Jaffee

“We want culture and education not arms and streets [barricaded with] tyres, for sure. We want to learn and reach our goals and lead a normal life like everyone else.”

Is this so much to ask? For those in Lebanon who want to live a normal life, it is much to ask, as their country is filled with Hezbollah terrorists. There are plenty of Lebanese who want a normal life, as evidenced by the tens of thousands who filled Beirut yesterday to peacefully commemorate the second anniversary of the murder of former Prime Minister Rafik Hariri. Hezbollah intimidation has not silenced them.

How Canada can help contain the Iranian threat

Thursday, February 15th, 2007

by David Harris and Sayeh Hassan*

Iran is an increasing danger to global security, and it demands the serious attention of Stephen Harper and his government.

In recent years, Tehran has expanded its sponsorship of terror in the Middle East through it proxies in Lebanon, Syria and the Palestinian Authority; undertaken aggressive foreign operations through Hezbollah, from Europe to South America; grossly violated the rights of its citizens, especially women and students; curtailed press freedoms; and murdered a Canadian, Zahra Kazemi. Earlier this month, Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad defiantly boasted that his theocracy now operates 3,000 centrifuges at its Natanz nuclear facility. This could well mean sufficient weapons-grade uranium for an atomic bomb by year-end.

The Pelosi-Murtha “Slow-Bleed” Strategy

Thursday, February 15th, 2007

by Mike Duncan, Chairman, Republican National Committee

The Democrat strategy on Iraq is finally clear.

We’ve known all along that they want to cut and run before the job is done. But they’ve been afraid to confront President Bush directly. Today, Democrat Rep. John Murtha let slip what he and Nancy Pelosi really intend to do, and it is genuinely frightening.
