Thursday, April 26th, 2007

By Michael Jacobson*

In mid-April, nearly two months into his tenure as the nation’s second Director of National Intelligence (DNI), Michael McConnell announced a “100 day plan,” outlining what he hopes to accomplish during this period. McConnell stated that his plan to improve the “integration and collaboration” of the US Intelligence Community (IC) marks the “next stage in intelligence reform.”

PBS Loves Islamo-fascists

Thursday, April 26th, 2007

By Andrew L. Jaffee

PBS is at it again, promoting Muslim extremists instead of moderates (normal people). Why? The PBS apparatchiks are afraid — very afraid. They believe they can save themselves from Islamist terrorism by appeasing the terrorists. History has proven this tactic wrong. Investor’s Business Daily catalogs the latest attempt by PBS at politically-correct sanitization, concluding, “PBS’ documentary whitewashes the Islamist threat inside the country. It could have just as easily been scripted by CAIR propagandists:”

It had to happen — Cho tributes on YouTube

Wednesday, April 25th, 2007

By Andrew L. Jaffee

It had to happen in a world where many have forgotten the difference between right and wrong: “tributes” to the evil, twisted Virginia Tech murderer, Cho Sueng Hui on YouTube. Some rationalized his ultra-violence because he was “laughed at,” some identified with him, and now they’re celebrating his mass murder of innocents. From Hot Air:

No joke, there’s a whole slew of them.

A Seung Hui apologist created the following one, comparing the US “killing” 32,000 innocent people in Iraq to only 32 killed in the Virginia Tech massacre.

When A Reporter Is Just A Reporter

Wednesday, April 25th, 2007

by Patrick Barron*

Mark Bowden, author of the popular book and movie Black Hawk Down and the highly acclaimed Killing Pablo, spoke to members and guests of The Middle East Forum recently about his new book Guests of the Ayatollah.

Speaking at the law offices of Pepper Hamilton in Center City, Bowden gave a highly interesting and entertaining talk about the cultural differences that led up to America’s first clash with radical Islam - the Iranian seizure of our embassy in Tehran in 1979 - and the experiences of the hostages and their captors.

Are Hillary Clinton and Barack Obama anti-Semites?

Wednesday, April 25th, 2007

by Bill Levinson

Barack Obama’s and Hillary Clinton’s recent attendance of Al Sharpton’s National Action Network raises some disturbing questions, especially given allegations about Clinton’s past record of making anti-Semitic statements. Jews Divided on Hillary Slur reports an allegation that, in 1974, she called Bill Clinton’s campaign manager Paul Fray, whom she apparently blamed for losing a congressional race for her husband, a “f**king Jew bastard.” Meanwhile, stories about Obama’s attendance at a madrasa, and his connection with a Black separatist minister, take on added seriousness in light of his recent visit to Al Sharpton’s racist and anti-Semitic hate group.

Under standards set, not by Republican critics with an axe to grind but by the National Jewish Democratic Council itself, Clinton, Obama, and also Bill Richardson, Joe Biden, Chris Dodd, and John Edwards, have disqualified themselves as candidates and should drop out of the race.

Mitt Romney for Israel

Wednesday, April 25th, 2007

By Andrew L. Jaffee

While I don’t like to make a habit of posting political candidate’s sound-bytes, I do believe that Mitt Romney deserves some credit for taking a strong, pro-Israel stance:

The Mob (Tribe) Rules in Palestine

Tuesday, April 24th, 2007

By Andrew L. Jaffee

All the years of Palestinian dysfunction are coming home to roost: textbooks teaching Jew-hatred, dressing up babies like suicide bombers, running kindergartens to train children to become homicide bombers, rejoicing at the 9/11 attacks on the U.S., families taking money for their own children’s homicide bombings, and systemic corruption; what could the final result of all this chaos be except for the melt-down of Palestinian society? Melting down it is. From today’s AP:

In a growing problem for Gaza, Palestinian smugglers and clansmen settle differences with guns, and bands of self-styled vigilantes have killed suspected pimps, prostitutes, drug dealers, owners of music shops, internet cafes, pool halls — activities which could divert people from worship — and women suspected of sexual misconduct. Bystanders are often wounded or killed. …

A Palestinian Peace Overture

Tuesday, April 24th, 2007

By Andrew L. Jaffee

This is what Palestinians think of “peace” with Israel:

“The cease-fire has been over for a long time, and Israel is responsible for that,” the spokesman, Abu Obeida, told the Voice of Palestine radio station. “We are ready to kidnap more and more, and kill more and more of your soldiers.”

Illegitimate Nation - An Examination of Out-of-Wedlock Births Among Immigrants and Natives

Tuesday, April 24th, 2007

by Steven A. Camarota*

The argument is often made that immigrants have a stronger commitment to traditional family values than do native-born Americans. However, birth records show that about one-third of births to both groups are now to unmarried parents. Moreover, unmarried immigrants are significantly more likely than unmarried natives to give birth. Illegitimacy may be especially problematic for children of immigrants because they need strong families to adjust to life in America.

Middle East Strongmen, Ancient and Modern - Review Essay

Monday, April 23rd, 2007

by Tony Badran*

The war in Iraq has exposed fissures in the structure of that modern Middle Eastern state earlier camouflaged by Arab nationalism and Saddam’s brutal rule. While Arab leaders speak of unity, the war has uncovered the clout of other power centers—ethnic, sectarian, regional, and tribal—that parallel the state and limit the power of central governments. At play are ancient traditions. And while it would be facile to suggest a direct continuity, precedents can matter. Recent scholarship about ancient Middle Eastern governance not only sheds light on the origin of traditions and structures but also enables comparative analysis for contemporary problems.

Requiem for an ex-communist (Yeltsin)

Monday, April 23rd, 2007

By Andrew L. Jaffee

Boris Yeltsin, former Russian President, has passed away. He led Russia out of communism (e.g., the Russian Empire) into democracy, only to see the man he appointed to succeed him, Vladimir Putin, erase his country’s evolution. Vladimir has surrounded himself with other former KGB goons, so in the Kremlin nowadays, “influence stems from the former Soviet organs of repression.”

Two events define Yeltsin’s commitment to democracy for Russia:

National Jewish Democratic Council Asked to Take Position on Sharpton

Monday, April 23rd, 2007

To: Ira Forman, Steve Rabin [and posted to the Internet]
From: William Levinson
Subject: Democratic appearance at Al Sharpton’s National Action Network

Dear Mr. Forman and Mr. Rabin:

Noting that the National Jewish Democratic Council has:

(1) Condemned John McCain’s use of the phrase “tar baby” as racist (posted by Steve Rabin)

(2) Criticized Mitt Romney for making a speech at the Henry Ford Museum (by Ira Forman) because of its connection to a long-dead EX-antisemite, noting that Ford retracted and repudiated “The International Jew.”

(3) Posted an article that called for Tommy Thompson to drop out of the Presidential race for saying, “I’m in the private sector, and for the first time in my life I’m earning money. You know, that’s sort of part of the Jewish tradition, and I do not find anything wrong with that.” While the intention was obviously to compare “Jewish tradition” to the “Protestant work ethic,” it is understandable how a statement about Jews and money might rub people the wrong way.

Hamas: America and Israel will be annihilated

Monday, April 23rd, 2007

By Andrew L. Jaffee

Israel is supposed to make peace with a terrorist group sworn to the Jewish state’s destruction? Hamas, now Palestine’s government, on Sunday urged Palestinians to commit terrorist attacks against Israel. And thanks to Jihad Watch, I can report that Ahmad Bahr, acting speaker of the Palestinian Legislative Council, stated publicly, “America and Israel will be annihilated.” From MEMRI:

Vive La France

Sunday, April 22nd, 2007

By Andrew L. Jaffee

Glad to see that democracy is alive and well in France:

…Voting throughout the day reached record numbers, with turnout put at 85% - the highest for nearly 50 years.

On a bright spring day, disillusionment with politicians and their promises did not translate into apathy, reports the BBC’s Caroline Wyatt in Paris.

Instead, young and old alike queued at the polling booths at schools and town halls, although in their choices they remained as divided as ever. …
